I am going to start loading for a M700 LSS 7mm RUM. Going to use the 160 gr AB with Retumbo and am thinking I will want to be around 91.0-92.0 grs for a 3200 + fps MV.

Anybody have any pet 7mm RUM loads they want to share?

7MM RUM 160 NAB 94/RETUMBO 215M 3301 SENDERO

All rem cases

94 retumbo rox!!!!!

My load is with RL25 but it works nice and is accurate.
7mm. RUM 160 gr. AccuBond
90 gr. RL 25 Fed. 215 primer Cartrige length 2.85 OAL 3.6 3333 fps
Rem 700 XCR

With the 140 gr. AccuBond I load 94 grs. RL 25 for 3500 fps. Also very accurate. Both loads hit within 2" of each other at 300 yds. with a 300 yd zero. at 500 yds the POIs are different but both shoot about a 5 " group.
This is a real handy antelope, mule deer combo rifle because of that .

JD,

Here we go with the Viht again - I played with N-165 out of my .300RUM right when I got it. Actually very light recoil and accurate - just severely lacking in the velocity dept.

That monster really flings those 7mm bullets! Couldn't imagine a much better rifle for deer/elk combo, especially as the range gets longer! Good luck with it, seems like RL25 and Retumbo really make it sing! Scotty

I loaded up the big 7mm RUM with the 160 gr AB and Retumbo, charge weights of 91.0, 92.0, 93.0 and 94.0 grs. I am expecting to get 3200-3300 fps but am striving for sub MOA accuracy.
I will post range results with pictures.

Here is what I got....

7mm RUM
160 gr AB
Retumbo
R-P case
CCI Mag primers

91.0 grs 3193 fps

92.0 grs 3215 fps

93.0 grs 3278 fps

94.0 grs 3319 fps (best accuracy)
This is where I am going to fine tune. Fotis, you were spot on!
Pretty impressive round and shoots flat as road kill.
I will post up some pictures and details in another thread.

Holy smokes Jim! That thing is smoking! Man, I bet the boy will be a happy camper with that load. Scotty

Here's what I shoot out of my 27.75" stainless rebarreled Ruger #1:
- Rem. brass
- Fed. GM Match 215 mag. primer
- 98.0 - H50BMG
- 160 NAB seated .010" from touching.
- 3345 ft./sec. (chrono.)
- .5" to .75" if I don't feel too old.

On one real good day I got a .417" group. I tried Retumbo but couldn't kick the pressure problem. Max load in my gun was 91.0. I am embarrased to talk about how many primer pockets I opened up on new brass trying to work it out. I don't notice too many 7mm RUM loaders trying H50BMG but it sure works for me. Another powder that was fairly decent was US869. The velocities weren't as good, but accuracy was an inch or better. A very experienced firearms instructor once told me that when loading very large cases with smaller diameter necks such as .25-06, .270, 7mm Rem. Mag & 7mm RUM, keep the burn rate slow. For years the best load I had in my 7mm Rem. Mag. was 160 NP & 80.0 H870. Very sensative to extreme temperature changes but was a tack driver.

Man, H870 was an awesome powder for the 7mm Rem with heavier bullets. I still have a few pounds left just for my older M70. Scotty

Cherish it Scotty....cherish it.

Having said that, I wonder how US869 would fair in the 7mm Mag??

I think H1000 or RL22 could takes it place, but in my M70 it is fast and accurate. Might be a little temp sensitive, but I haven't found that to be an issue. I do keep the H870, just for my M70 7mm though. I think I might have 2 or 3 lbs left, so I plan to keep it around for awhile. Scotty

Scotty, the reason I mentioned US869 was because I loaded it into my bro.-in-law's 7mm Mag. I used the 160 NP & 78.5 US869. I had 3 rounds go .75 in. & the 4th opened it up to 1.25 in. I didn't go any further with it but I really believe the potential is there. The stupid ass wouldn't give me the gun back to go further with it. :?

It sounds like it would be worth a try. Might give it a shot once I do some more load development for the 7mm. Thanks for the heads up. Scotty
