7mm Weatherby Accumark chamber

I recently sent a standard Mk V back to Weatherby for conversion to an Accumark. I felt that the throat may have been eroded as I had fired about 1000 rds thru it and my handloads seemed to be opening up. I just received the rifle back last week so I havent had time to wring it out yet, but I do have high hopes!!

One thing I did notice with my new Accumark is that the chamber is tighter then my standard Mk V. None of my previously fired brass (in the old rifle) will fit, despite full length resizing. New factory ammo fits fine however. So now I have about 200 pieces of 7mm Wea Mag brass plus 100 rds loaded that will not fit but is useable otherwise. I hate to scrap this brass as we all know how expensive it is. I have never seen any ads for a small base full length resizing die in 7mm Wea. I have been using Hornady standard dies.

Any suggestions?

RR hit the nail on the head. The brass will need to be resized. Full length sizing will make it fit. If you do fire some other brass, you will find what is needed and set your dies accordingly.

When faced with a similar problem in a 300 Weatherby I've used my Willis collet die. I would not be surprised if not too far above the belt your brass is a bit larger in diameter than the chamber. Adjusting the die, full length sizing and even using a body die did nothing, nada, zip to help the problem until I used the collet die to squeeze down the area of the brass just above the belt. The brass bulges at that location just enough to keep you from chambering it. Once resized wiht this tool the brass fed beautifully into the chamber.

Use a Sharpie and color an entire case black. It dries quite quickly. Now run that case into the chamber and see where it's rubbing. That will tell you the tale far more than a bunch of guys on their computer. Let us know what you find out.

Dr Vette,

I think you have exactly described the problem and solution. I will certainly get a Willis collet die and give it a try.

from my original post - None of my previously fired brass (in the old rifle) will fit, despite full length resizing.

I did resize the brass as much as my die would allow.

Thanks

The nice thing about the Willis die is it works for all the Wby and Win mag based cartridges. Very handy piece of gear.

According to their website, one set works with virtually all belted cases. Ordered a set yesterday.

It does not work for the big Weatherbys, i.e. 378 and larger. He does say that on his website.

That is it. Same thing with my 378 Bee when it went from factory barrel to Pac-nor barrel
