This was shot out of my son rifle. It is a 130 grain speer hot core. 50 yards into 4 2.5 gallon jugs penetration into the 4 jug. 39.0grains of varget if I Remer right right at 2800fps. Bullet weight was 78g after impact.

I have twin 9 year old sons. This load is easy for them to shoot and they have killed 3 deer with it shots were around 40 yards. Deer were drt!

Good on your boys. That is excellent for them. The Hot Cor is an excellent bullet that doesn't get the respect it likely deserves in an era focused on premium bullets. As a bullet for deer size game, it is still a fine bullet.

What rifle are the boys using? Did you have to make any significant adjustments in order for them to handle it?

It is the savage trophy hunter xp youth model it came with a Nikon 3x9x40 bdc scope. No it didn't have to do anything it fits them great. They love the gun and shoot it well. They have shot out to 125 yards and can keep it in a 2 in circle. I am have shot 3/4 in groups @ 100 with the rifle. Price was 587$ I am very pleased with it. Thinking of buying myself one in a 260rem. with a full length stock. After shooting the 708 with no recoil my 7600 pump 30 06 that I have had since I was 16 isn't fun to shoot anymore!

You mean the 140 Partition isn't the only 7/08 bullet? Sorry couldn't resist but it has been my go to round and worked flawlessly for so long I can't phantom trying anything else but I'm pretty sure the hot core would do as well . Good to have choices .

Hahaha. I have some 140 partitions and the test I did with them were great! But the recoil was a little more than the 130s so for right now the boys are shooting them. I can argue with the deer burger and sausage that I put in the freezer either haha! I do want to shot something with the 140s. I hope to try them on some hogs here before long.

The Speer Hotcore has been a terrific bullet. I've used it in the past in a couple rifles I no longer have and it hasn't let me down.

For danged sure. I still use quite a lot of them. Great Bullets at a great price.
