I have a friend that has a Rem 700 7mm RSUM and ammo and cases are getting hard to find. He and I am wondering if it could be reamed out to a 7mm WSM without much trouble? Are there any gunsmiths out there that can answer this question?

FWIW, MidwayUSA has brass and ammo in stock for the 7MM SAUM.

After looking at the specs of each, I would say yes you could ream it to a WSM. The RSAUM is a tad smaller in length and diameter.

In either case, the 7mmWSM is going to require some deep seating of bullets to stay within the magazine length of even the 700 short action. It's not prohibitive, but velocities are not going to be quite up to snuff compared. That's the reason the 7mmRSAUM is a tad shorter than the WSM. Overall, he's not going to find a bunch more 7mmWSM ammo or cases than the RSAUM, as both are going the way of the dodo. I'd stock up on brass (like 500rds or so, while it's still available) and then handload the rest of my life. It's a great round, other than not taking off very well in terms of sales volume. They both are.

It is all a moot point now. I talked to my friend and he sold the rifle and is going to get a 270WSM.
