Well I got to pick up my JES Rebored 30-06 today. It looks very handsome with that big hole in the end of the barrel. It chambers my dummies that I sent nicely but I believe I will have to shorten them up a bit as I can see rifling marks on them. It was a Stainless Classic Sporter M70 with a 24" barrel. I had been looking for one for quite a while before I found this one.

Before I decided to go through with it I took my time and was up in the air if I should re barrel a M70 270 BOSS I had or find a new donor. Well after some time and research looking at cartridge dimensions I decided on finding myself a 270/30-06 with a 24" barrel and re boring it with the success others have had using JES. All critical dimensions for the 9.3 are larger than the 270 or 30-06 so Jess didn't even have to bother with setting the barrel back. This was the biggest reason I chose to find a 24" donor.

As for the rest of my parts for this build it might be a bit slow as Midway is out of Brockman/Talley base peep sights and I need info on those before I go ahead with a NEGC Masterpiece Banded front sight. I am currently trying to contact Mr. Brockman to place an order. I have a pair of Leica 2.5-10X42 4A with Elevation turrets ready for use one will be mounted on this rifle the other will find its home nestled on the 338-06AI in Talley LW lows.

I will be test firing the rifle on Thursday with no sights into jugs for the heck of it so I can get a couple fired cases to find COAL's and see where I'm at on the recoil equation. I'm going to restock the rifle in either a SG stock or if I need to add some weight to tame her I will order a Supergrade Mickey in a Mag or sniper fill will pillars.

Nice thumper :) What loads are you planning on running?

Well I think I can run the 250 in the 2700-2800 range and the 286 around 2550-2600 with H414 and RL17.

We will see!!

Neat rifle set up to excel on game! Give us some pictures of groups and stuff when you have time, Jake. That is really a nice rifle and the scope is great also.

Very nice. I have no doubt that could easily become a new favourite for you, Jake. (y)

Great looking rifle. That brockman PPP up peep sight is excellent. I had that set up on both my custom m70s. One a lightwieght 375, the other a 458 lott. It will be a very nice setup with a banded NECG front.

What front sight did you have on yours? I really wish I could have had that ordered all ready but Midway is out so I'm trying to go direct. What height is your front sight? I need that before I order my NEGC sight.

Thanks
Jake

I don't remember the exact hight but I think it was a medium williams ramp. You should really wait and measure it. Waiting sucks but doing things right is worth it.

When it's done it is an excellent setup.

The rifle looks great Jake! Can't wait to see how the 286 Partition penetrates the jugs. We will have to compare notes on velocities once the chronographs get set up.

Should prove to be an OUTSTANDING all-around hunting rifle!

Really looking forward to your range and field reports.

Good call on the re-bore to 9.3mm.

Guy

The 9.3x62 is a classic and those are the two bullets I would be looking at as well. it will be very interesting to see how those two bullets perform in the milk jugs. The 9.3 mm section in the bullet tests is pretty empty. That 286 gr PT in particular must be a freight train.........

Jake, you may want to invest in a Kicksaver Simms pad for that rifle. The 9.3x62 does kick a little.

Very nice Jake. That's a pretty good lookikg rifle as is.

Can't wait to see how it does in the jugs.

I would look for any inexpensive .366" bullet to just run through the rifle. I'm betting it'll take just a little shooting to smooth out.

Outstanding rifle!
I find it very attractive. May you have many successful hunts with her.

Vince

Hey Bear,
That looks like a Brockman peep/Tally base with .330 hole spacing on the stainless. Where did you get it?
Thanks,
Scott

They are both .330 spacing, I got the one from brownells and the other from brockman directly
