95 grain Ballistic Tip failure on a whitetail

I had a situation with 100gr BTSP from Hornady and by like you I said I was going to not use them on Deer any more. Well fast forward I had a Box left over that I had reloaded in my 6mm Rem and Iowa has an excess Doe only season so I thought what the Hell let’s see what happens. I was presented a chest on looking at Me from around 50 yard shot.
First shot did not go to well the shot did not fire. Open and closed the bolt as the deer just stood looking at me very slow.
Next shot the Deer disappeared as it was standing behind a fallen log and I could not see its legs. Well went to look for blood and when I got to the log and behind it lays a dead doe fell in its track with quite a blood splatter where the bullet exited.
What did I learn we should not judge any bullet by one bad experience as weird things happen !!! also in 40 years of reloading Rifle shells this is a first, but I have had it happen in. Shotgun shells.

is that the one that didn't fire ? it looks to be hit plenty hard . I'm guessing no powder , or a bad primer .

Bad Primer ! It is 6mm REM , REM primer R22 48.0gr Hornady 100gr BTSP
Which is very Accurate at 300 yards 3 three shot groups fired in a row letting it cool between groups is under 2.2 inches

Bad primer…or you just didn’t see it deep enough. I’ve been guilty as charged not seating primer deep enough, and then they fire on the second try after you seated them the first time around trying to fire them. Glad to hear you dropped the deer in its tracks! There’s no way I would ever shoot a deer straight on with a 243 no matter what bullet I picked. Broadside only for me just like if I was doing an archery shot or I pass on the shot. IMO that’s the whole reason why the 243 gets a bad rap is because of poor shot placement.
