Does any one have any experience with making subsonic 147 xtp loads for a 16” barrel. I tried 4.2, 4.4 and 4.6 grains of true blue. Loaded to 1.1” oal. The 4.6 load was the only one that was consistent. I thought it was a clean powder but brass is fairly dirty after being shot. Almost like there is not enough pressure to expand brass and seal. The 2 lighter loads were very inconsistent with 100 fps spreads. The 4.6 load dropped down to a sd of 16 at 1070 fps. Do you think it would be better with a faster powder that normally wouldn’t be first choice with 147’s. I have 231 and 244, and a couple others. Looking for consistent subsonic, not speed or power. Power pistol seems like it would do the same as true blue. Any thoughts or experiences I would appreciate.

147gn Berry's, 3.7gn CFE Pistol, seated to 1.16" works in my 16" PCC. 948,960,978,974,963,968,965,982,943,963. 964fps @ 10', 11.6 SD, 39 ES

For reference, the same load in a Performance Center Shield goes 815fps and 4.0gn CFE-P in a 5" RIA 1911 goes 905fps. SD and ES stayed consistent in both platforms.

147gn bullets and CFE Pistol go together.

Thank you, you made my weekend.

I also recall loading with 3.2gn N320. My tuned 5" M&P liked it. 855,844,863,865,839. 855fps @ 10', 10.2 SD, 26 ES.

QuickLOAD indicates 3.2gn N320 will send a 147gn Berry's ~1050 out of a 16" PCC.
