I started out the day taking my daughter out to shoot my deer under the Oregon Mentor program. We hiked to a rocky knob over looking a drainage where deer frequently travel.

We saw a half dozen does and fawns, but nothing with horns. I received a text message from a hunting buddy stating his boy Adam just got a monster bear and they needed some help. His son and my daughter are in the same class in school so she was excited and eager to quit our hunt and help them out. The next text came through and stated, bring your quad and some help. We drove an hour into town, grabbed some gear and our other hunting partner and headed out. We found them about 1/2mi down the hill from the bear and Adam was smiling from ear to ear. We followed an old skid trail to within 100 yards of the beast and started to work. My good camera took a dump on me so all we have in the field are crappy cell phone pictures. We took some better shots once we got home.

He was so heavy I had to back down the hill because trying to drive forward would pick the rear end of the quad off the ground!

One happy hunter.

My daughter was not able to get a buck this weekend, but she was a real help and had a great time. Both of them are going to have a whopper of a story to tell today at school.

Awesome story and pictures.
Congratulations to Adam on a beautiful bear and to your daughter for going on the hunt. Her day is coming soon to be in a photo with her trophy.

What a hog! Adam has a real trophy in that bruin. Congratulations to him on his excellent bear. Congratulations to your daughter for pitching in so readily and for learning about the joy to sharing the work. Great report and excellent pictures.

Great job!!!!! That will make some great memories for years to come, not to mention bragging rights.

SWEET!!!! That will make a really nice rug. Congrats to the young man and to you in showing your daughter what it means to help a friend.

That is so cool, and your daughter jumped right in to help. It was apparent that she was as excited for her friend as if she had shot the bear herself. I agree that by jumping in to help get his bear, she really showed some character and class and is going to one great hunting partner for you for years to come!! Good work with the kids. I bet that beautiful bear is going to be great eating as well. I have had smoked bear roast and it is to die for!!

Wow, that is a dandy. It was great that you have friends and are a friend to help out someone else in need. Congrats to you all!

That is an awesome bear! Wow, what a great coat and it is a true hog. Man, that young feller has done well and set the bar pretty high for himself! Scotty

Thats a hugeeeeeeeeeee bear. I really think its a bufflo in bear camo. Great pic's did you weigh him or have him scored? It looks like the bear could have carried the 4 wheeler.

For those that may still be interested, we did not get a weight on the bear but I am confident it was over 500lb. The skull green scored just over 21" and may be the #1 bear ever shot in Oregon by a youth.

Amen to that! 21 is B&C.
He looks all of 500 lbs.

That is a HOG of a bear. That is one lucky little feller. I would be beside myself to take a bear like that! Scotty
