Accubond Long Range Accuracy

Ok the question of the day is how good is the AccuBond 180 Grain Bullet for Accuracy at distances of 300,400 & 500 yards. My300 Ultra Mag has a Measured Muzzle Velocity of 3372 fps. Just recently I found a place to shoot and test this load at 300-400 yds. Can't wait to try it out. Anyone care to share their experiences about the AccuBond as this will be my choice for Elk Hunting in Colorado this Fall.

Thanks,
Don

Losded the 165gr, 30/06, for a friends Elk hunt. Shot them at 100/200/300. Held good accuracy at all ranges. He made a one shot kill at 110yds.Rick.

The AB us up to the accuracy itself. Accuracy depends on what is sending the bullet and who is sending it at long range. Wind is you major problem for looooog range shooting. You can easy figure your come-ups on a scope for yardage but figuring out the wind separates the men from the boys.

I just went out and measured my target from a few weeks ago. The 500 yd target was about 4.25" with the 180 gr accubonds at 3332 fps. just about centered on my target dot. The 257 Wby with 110 gr accubonds was about 5" also centered. Rem 700 sps for the 300 RUM and Wby Vanguard for the 257. The AccuBond will group. None of the hits were more than 3 " from the dot.
There are a lot of real experts on long range shooting on this forum that can give you probably better results. For me the AccuBond is the best hunting bullet ever made and the 5-20 and 6-24 scopes make a BIG difference over the 3-9 or 4-12 at those ranges. At 5 or 6 power I've never had a scope full of hair so I couldn't see to shoot.
Just my results and opinion.

Well I shot a personal best 1.5" 3 shot group at 525 yards with the 200g AB/H1000 out of my old rem 700 LSS in 300 RUM few years back while zeroing and making up a drop chart for my upcoming elk hunt. This rifle and load was a consistent 1/2-1.25 MOA performer out to 1K. Hitting a 15" gong at 1K was not a problem for the 200g AB's either.

Typically a consistent 1 MOA grouping out to the distance you are shooting at is a good goal, especially as the range increases. Its not so hard to produce 1/2" group at 100 yards and which is 1/2 MOA, but to shoot a 10" group at 1K which is now 1 MOA gets a little bit tougher...

I typically look for 1.5-2" groups at 300 yards, 2-3" Groups at 400, 3-4" at 500, etc. If you can do that, you have a great rifle/load which can and will produce MOA results to 1K on your better days and sometimes 2 MOA on the bad days.

Anyways, I think there good to go out to a fair poke, as long as there still hitting around 1700fps and put in the right spot, the animals going to be in big trouble.

Thanks everyone for your input, actually I am excited about all the possibilities this bullet has to offer. My 300 Ultra has a Burris Signature 4 x 16 x 44 Scope with the Ballistic Plex, I never have used it since being installed 4 years ago but since I'm shooting this load I want to give it a try.

Thanks again to all that responded.

Out of my 300RUM, I loaded 210 Bergers and 200 AB. Both shot very well, in fact with out changing the scope setting, both bullets hit a 16" gong at 800yds. I'm going to try the Berger this season for no other reason than I have never used them before.

In my 270WSM, it is loaded with 140 AB. This is my goto gun.

I have not felt at all that the AB is not capable at long range shooting (hunting). Of course this is just my opinion.

Have fun with that 300!

Thanks Teknys,

The 300 Ultra is an awesome gun for sure. Just found out today we switched our Elk Hunting to 3rd Season, we got access to a couple Ranches. Hope this increases our odds. Anxious to try the AccuBond with the Ultra Mag.
