I've worked some other loads up using the AccuBond but not had the luxury of playing with OAL due to magazine constraints. My next project is working up a load for my 300WSM - it's a Montana 1999 action and has a 3+" magazine. I've used the method described in Nosler #6 to check max OAL in my rifle(using 165gr. AccuBond). Max cartridge OAL to lands is 2.970". What is the suggested distance off the lands to start load development? What does the AccuBond like?
Thanks,
Scott

I would start with 2.950" (.020 off the lands) as your max. Further load developement may require adjusting the seating depth, which I do in .005 increments. Make sure this OAL will feed OK in the magazine with a few dummy rounds at that max length - just a "better safe than sorry" thing.

Richracer1 is correct. I load for a friend with the 180 grain AccuBond in his .300 WSM. His max is 2.975. I ended up loading his rounds at 2.930 which puts them .045 off the lands. Each rifle is individual and you have to just work on it and try different lengths if the accuracy is not there with what depth you are loading them to. I made sure his had room in his magazine and they were feeding good too before I settled on this length.

Good luck with your load work. I tried a bunch of powders in his Winchester Model 70, but ended up with H4831SC producing the best groups with IMR4831 very close behind. Of course the two loads were seperated by several grains of powder because of the slightly different burn rates of each one, but the most accurate load with each powder produced almost the exact same velocity. There actually was only 5-fps difference, and this 2930 fps seemed to be the sweet spot with that particular bullet and load.

You really can't say what works best for the AccuBond in all guns or even in most guns. In my rifle the most accurate load was at .125" off the rifling which also just happens to be the maximum magazine length.

Yup - it was more accurate than .020" off, 010" off and even bullets that were just touching the lands and those that were loaded into the rifling.

Go figure!

Can't answer your question just tell ya what happened to me.

Been shooting 140 BTs in my 280 Remington on top of 57 grs of RL19 for many years.OAL was 3.355 and groups were 1/2 MOA out to 300 yards.

When I switched to 140 ABs I worked up to 57 grs of RL 19 and started playing with OAL.Same case, same primer, same powder charge, the ABs had to be at 3.370 to get the same 1/2 MOA groups.
YMMV
