anybody have any good advise or know of any sites that show how to adjust the trigger on the 700?? ive heard dont mess withe sear screw is this right or wrong??

My 2 cents worth. I personally would not do it myself unless I HAD A LOT of experience doing so. My suggestion would be to take it to a very reputable gunsmith in your area and have HIM adjust it. It is just not worth the risk of not getting something right and then having a firearm that is unsafe. If it is a hunting rifle and not a dedicated target or varmint rifle, I feel that 3 to 3.5 pounds is plenty light, and what all of the trigger on my own rifles are set at. My gunsmith will not adjust a FACTORY (Remington) trigger below 3 pounds for safety reasons. Hope this helps.

6mm Remington is correct. A competent gunsmith will give a measure of confidence on the work. My rifles are generally set to 3 pounds, which is plenty light, especially with gloves.

If anybodys gunsmith is worth there salt, they "should" be able to set a factory rem trigger to 1.5-2# and break like glass. Guess I should say the older ones though. The newer ones are crap and cant be taken down as light or crisp. I have no experience with the newer xmark trigger.

It is not hard to work on the older 700 triggers and get them down to 1.5-2# safely. Theres a detailed article with pictures on snipershide or snipercountry, one of the two.

I did my first one about 10 years ago on my 700 ADL in .222 rem and didn't know much at first. However, if you can read and have common sense, you should be fine. I have that down to 1.75# and it breaks really nice. Never had a problem in a couple thousand rounds.

I've never had the need to buy an aftermarket trigger for a 700. If I need to go lighter then 1.5-2# then I guess I"ll buy an aftermarket, but untill I shoot BR with a 2oz trigger, my hunting rifles are all around 1.5-2# so the rem 700 triggers work perfect and still break like glass.

I have a 3 year old CDL and I had the trigger done. The pull was just under 6lbs and had it reduced to 3.0lbs. I believe that the trigger was the new Xmark. Jays advised that he has adjusted a number of Remington triggers both old trigger and new never having a problem.
He advised that he does not like to adjust triggers on hunting rifles much less than 3 lbs. My rifle with the trigger adjustment is a like owning a new rifle it so smooth that I am going to have 2 more done after Christmas  The cost was $30.00 Canadian Hey!

Blessing,
Dan

The M700 trigger is pretty easy to adjust but you need to take your time and use caution. There are several references on the internet,

I had a similar post in sept. and some one sent me to snipercountry.com key word 700rem. they walk you thru the adjust ment step by step, very thurough.

Ditto what JD338 said.
I have set all of of mine per directions from an internet sight and after the first one it's pretty easy.
That being said, if you don't feel good about doing it yourself it doesn't cost much to have a gunsmith do it, and you'll have peace of mind.

Don't mess with the sear engagement, screw on the back of the trigger, unless you really understand what it does. Since you asked how to adjust the trigger, don't mess with the screw on the back of the trigger housing.Rick.
