Here is just a little update from the State of AK on the bears taken where I hunted last spring.

197 bears taken in Game Units 1B and 3 last Spring. Males were 86%. Average age was 9.2 years, oldest was 21 years. Average skull size was 18.5" for all bears and 18.8" on just the boars they didn't give the largest skull unfortunately.

My bear came in at 10 years old with a skull size of 19.25". Not too bad for a guys first bear a little better than average. I don't think my friend will ever let me shoot first again.

Todd's bear came in at 9 years old and 18.82". He is right at the average but still very happy about his bear. He said he is ready to go again but this time he wants a fall bear so he can hunt black tail as well.

Here is the original story.

Congratulations again. Those are both beautiful bears.

Interesting to me that the average age of the bears was nine years... Shows me that you fellows up there aren't shooting the baby bears - but rather that you're letting 'em grow up first. That's a good thing I think - improves the trophy quality to the kind of bears you and your buddy took.

Congrats! Guy
