When working up a new rifle or load I will now always take a spare rifle with me! I have busted my butt with a model 700 .270 for way too long and it was causing me to doubt everything I've ever learned about rifles! I changed scopes twice, changed loads with everything imaginable, changed my rest, just about anything you could come up with was tried. The gun would shoot a good group once, then flake out. I re-bedded several times and ways, did the full barrel cleaning routine, had my eyes checked and got new glasses! Finally lost all confidence in the gun and myself and that last part sucks! I took my 22-250 out and shot bugholes so maybe the recoil needed a different rest, what a joke, the 270 shot worse with different rests. Today I took out my 300 Winchester in a model 700 and shot a .330" group at 100 yards so I'm BACK. The 270 needs a new barrel although this one was nearly new when I started---maybe a 280 A.I.??
