I'd appreciate if Some of you Guys could run the Quickload data for the following :

300 Winchester Magnum
Hornady 200 ELD-X bullet
Norma MRP Powder
Norma Brass
Federal GM215 primer
C.O.A.L. : 3,464" (88,00 mm.)

26" 1-11" barrel twist rate
Approximate Temp. : 60°F
Approx. Elevation : 2000 Ft.

P.S.: Does the QL software also give the difference in powder load between light brass (Norma, Rem, W-W) and heavy one (RWS) ?
 
Data with different cases is determined by weighing your fired case ( unsized ) with a fired primer and filling it level to the mouth with water and weighed. The difference is entered in the water capacity database on QL and in turn will show how much % case fill you have with a certain type of brass. Different brass have variance in thickness which result in less or more powder volume.

Roughly, I know I'll have to reduce the powder charge by 6-7% while going from light brass (Norma) over to RWS.

I am still trying both, to find out which is better.

Give me your water capacity data for those cases and I'll run the numbers again for you. Good luck.
 
I've run a three 3-shot loads quick test the other day, with a different bullet (Sierra MK200) but based on the QLoad data from this 3D.

100 meter distance (roughly 110 yds.) from lower load (target #1) to the highest (#3).
I used "F" for the cold bore shot Load # 1.

Considering the kind of rifle used, I'd say they look quite promising and I am gonna run the exact same loads (including #1, because I suspect there was some "bullet contamination issue" that made the first 2 shots going slightly off...and then shots 3-4 were spot on...) with the Hornady ELD-X.



From this result, I'd go with load # 3, but I'll have to see what ELD's have to say.... :mrgreen:
 
Tried the Hornady ELD-X 200 the other day, with the same loads as the SMK 200.

Not really impressed, I must say..... :?



Load #1 (Norma MRP x 71 grs.) = too mild : Cases showed slight smoke...

Load #2 (Norma MRP x 72,4 grs.) = Big step up on recoil compared to #1, although quite "round" - No pressure signs on primers

Load #3 (Norma MRP x 73,7 grs.) = Still step up on recoil compared to #2, much "stiffer" - No pressure signs on primers

Hornady and Norma state 73.6-73.7 as max. load, although I suspect they've been quite conservative..... :mrgreen:

According to QLoad data (above), I am not near max load and I am tempted to try a batch with 75 grs., to check for pressure signs and to see whether group spreads or tightens.

I've already tried 77 grs. with 185 Berger VLD and it performed quite well with no pressure signs.

Your thoughts ?
