+1 on the .270 Win as a starter for Ladies and kids.
I started with a .270 at age 11.
My wife started on a .270.
My son started on a .270.
I've killed ALOT a prarie dogs with the 90 GR Sierra's (I'll try to remember to post the load tonight Pop).
When I was young, I shot the old 130 or 150gr solidbase for deer and antelope, and the 150 Partitions for elk.
Now I shoot the 140gr BT/AB for everything bigger then Praire dogs.
For myself with the 140's I'll load 59gr of H4831sc behind the 140AB, (win brass, cci 200 primers) for the wife and kids I back it off to 57gr. 2gr of powder doesn't sound like much, but it makes a HUGE difference in recoil.
Of course the first thing you do before you let them shoot their new rife is make sure it has a BIG recoil pad on it.....
When they get older, or more confident, then you can a shotgun, 22-250, 300win mag, or 338 wim mag ect to their collection.
