With 11 days left in primitive hunting season in this part of South Mississippi, I have a few more chances to hunt. Now that would not mean much to me considering my old school muzzle loader pistol that I have been using and the fact that I am having trouble seeing that thin front sight, especially in the low light of the evening and have to end my hunts some 35-40 minutes before I would like to and I can forget early morning hours till almost sunrise.

So, I have acquired (peresonal story), a Knight Disc Elite .50 cal muzzle loader, with a Burris 3-9x40 FullField scope, Hornady SST Flex saboted bullets, and some Triple seven magnum pellets and 100 209 primers. It is like new and was only fired at the range and then put up and not hunted with.

I can prime the disc with my fingers and load it with my fingers. I have been practicing. I cleaned it again, but it didn't really need it (you know when you get a gun you just have to clean it, even if it does not need it) :) I was going to bore sight it, but it didn't need that either, it was on at 50 yds. Will make adjustments tomorrow morning at the range after firing at my targets. I love the feel of the thumbhole, it really fits my hand when I shoulder the rifle. After I get it sighted in at the range I will hunt tomorrow afternoon and a few days next week. With 2 Triple 7 Magnums pellets I will get around 2200fps with a 250gr Hornady SST Flex saboted bullet.

Here are a few pictures of this rifle.

That is a sharp set-up, Mike. If a rifle does not have glass atop it, I'm virtually worthless any more. It ain't no sin to grow old; but it is surely inconvenient.

Mike

Nice looking smoke pole.
Good luck during your late season, I hope you are successful!

A 250 gr. bullet at 2200 FPS. That's some serious horsepower. I can see why you want to fuss with it, it looks like a corvette in muzzle loader clothing. 8) Very nice indeed.

Ain't that the truth Mike, is surely is inconvenient. I find myself having to actually push harder to get things done but that is exactly what I will do. After that event with my old time muzzle loading pistol, I had to admit, it is time to get something with glass on it so I don't miss  8)

Thanks, and that is a great description Greg! Yeah, a corvette in muzzle loader clothing. 8)

Well, won't be hunting tomorrow or Friday. Checked the weather and it will be raining all day tomorrow and Friday. I will have to wait till Saturday. Got a short window of an hour and a half tomorrow morning and I will be at the range at those times to sight it in and be ready for Saturday. :)

Oh brother, now your talken, nice elk gun. Probably smoke a little ole white tail in low light conditions as well. Cool

I have 2 Knights, 50 and the 54. Both shoot very well, they are not the dics though. I used those SST the last 2 years in the 50 and they shoot. First deer 80 yards down hill though brush.
Another buck this year. I think you will be happy with both. Good luck.

Sighted it in this morning and here is the three shot group at 100 yds, minus bore remeasured and it is 1.245" Put the fist and second in the same hole and the third was a little left. Good enough for now, will tweak my load this spring. Only have a few more bullets and powder. Bad weather today and tomorrow will go Saturday.

Yes, this is a shooter. This spring I will have much more time plus bullets and supplies to tweak the load, but for right now it will do the job. I can't stand this rain mix with ice for today and most of tomorrow. Can't wait till Saturday.

I didn't see a thing this morning, just got cold as I sat in that tree stand and the sleet fell for half an hour and then the wind blew, the sun did not break the clouds until 9:45 and by 12:00 I was frozen, even thought the temps started to rise, I just could not get warm. Back home now and still can't get warm, that wet soaked through to my bones. Will be going back a few days next week. Mike :)

Mike, hopefully you are rewarded for your suffering next time out! Scotty
