I like the o-ring method, but they can crack in humid weather like we have with repeated oiling, etc, but they are easy to take on & off, which I don't need to do. I am aware of Paco Kelly's fix & the aftermarket parts you can buy.

But my brother came up with this for us at least. We use a plain 1/4" E-Clip, it is stiff, but it won't come off.

If some allready know of this I am sorry, thought I would share.

Mine works just fine with two safty's . Its left with the hammer on safe and if on stand the cross bolt goes off when I first see a deer and I go to full cock with the hammer when I decied to shoot.

I don't see an issue is not like the remington keys their very useless, mine are always off. No excause for lack of safty when handling guns and pointless when there in the safe.

If your method works for YOU, then that's cool, but it is not desirable for ME & that's fine as well. Some like the grip safety in the 45 & some don't,
different strokes for different folks.

Like you I see an "issue" with the Rem. ADDITIONAL safety but unlike you I see no need in the Mar. crossbolt safety, neither is important, but it is your business if it does not bother you. If you don't mind the redundant safety, then don't use the E-clip, o-ring, aftermarket replacement or anything else, it will be cool with everyone. I am not interested in the additional "lawyer safety".

BTW, I think the older Marlin is safe enough without the side safety, but that's a call we can all make for ourselves, isn't it?

I did not post this for anyone who does not see the need obviously as the thread could just be ignored, but rather for the thousands of people who do not want the extra safety. Different ways of dealing with this has been discussed by droves of people on various sites. I know of a couple of lost big game opportunities by friends because the safety slipped over to the "safe side" without them being aware & of course if it can slip one way it can the other, which makes it kinda silly to have, but I don't need both a belt & suspenders either.

Again, I am passing along yet another method to do away with that safety
& only for those who are interested.
