Welcome to the forum.

H4831 and H4831SC are the same exact powder, same burn rate. The difference is in the size if the extruded powder, SC stands for Short Cut.

This seems like a good place to divulge a little more info on Hodgdon, H4831 specifically...I once had a pound of H4831SC sit on the shelf for a number of years. It was purchased before Hodgdon began publicizing the "Extreme" line of powders, of which the H4831s are a part. The container did not have the "Extreme" logo on it. A coworker and I then swapped some powder, and I ended up with another pound of H4831SC, this one with the "Extreme" logo on it.

I don't like to work up a load using one lot of powder and then have to work up again because I run out and have to start using a new lot number. If I have a pound or two of a powder and acquire more of the same, only a different lot number, I will mix them all up so that I have a homogeneous batch of powder with which to work.

Anyway, I knew the two pounds of H4831SC used the same data, but I did not know whether there was anything different between a pound of powder labeled "Extreme" and one not so labeled. A call to Hodgdon confirmed that they were in fact identical and the only difference was the logo on the label.

Of course, the Hodgdon tech would not endorse my mixing of different lot numbers, but I think I understand why. It's a litigation-driven world, and some idiot would surely deduce that he could mix H380 and H110 and come up with his own custom blend of powder. What a world.
