I know, this is a Nosler site...

I got a new toy, a Ruger Super Redhawk, 44 mag, 7.5" bbl. I did some trading with a friend to get some reloading components for the 44. I have CCI large pistol primers. Hodgdon 110 powder, WW brass. The only bullets I could find are some Sierra 300 grn soft points, but they need to be seated to 1.75". That's kind of throwing me a bit for finding a good charge. Any of you guys load these? I'm hoping to push the 300 grn bullets to around 1200 fps.

thx!

!9 grs of 110 would be MAX, 18 would be safer on you and the pistol. Have fun, be safe N

From my 5.5" Redhawk and 4 5/8" SBH if it weights 300-320grs it gets 21.0grs H110, cast or jacketed.

The 310gr WFNGC runs 1250fps from my 4 5/8".

I am shooting the Nosler 300 gr with 20.5 grs H110 in my S&W 629 Classic
Great accuracy and 1196 fps.

Thanks guys!

I think the Sierras at 1.750" OAL can take a higher charge then what the manuals offer at 1.61" and keep a safe pressure. I might just stick with an even 20 grns H110 limit to be safe. I know Hodgdon says the max charge is 19 grns for the 300 grn bullets, but both Hornady and Nosler manuals go slightly over 20.

You can shoot the heavy loads, I used to. Want to buy a stretched and worn out S&W 29? Basically it's higher pressure = equals shorter life span of the weapon. Save the heavy stuff for hunting. My $ .02 learned the hard way. n

Handloads from Sierra Suite I6. First number is 900 fps, second number is 950 fps, et cetera, up to 1150 fps for 6th number.

That 300 grain Sierra is a tough bullet and very accurate in both my 444 and 44 Blackhawk. 20-21 grains of H110 will get it moving and give you some serious thump from a pistol.
