Anybody ever build a 6-300WSM?

Here are the results of the latter test. The velocities are listed below. 66grs had stiff bolt lift. This was with Retumbo.
60grs 3274fps
61grs 3289fps
62grs 3334fps
63grs 3376fps
64grs 3474fps
65grs 3478fps
66grs 3580fps I know I pulled this one a bit.

It looks like 64 and 65 show some promise too Nathan. I would like to try a ladder test on something, just to see how it works. What range did you shoot them at?

What do you do from here with the test? What is your procedure?

From my previous experience with over bore stuff it looks like 64grs is where you'd have to stop for velocity as 65grs only gained 4fps. It might shoot good there but after looking at the 61-63gr group I would try 62-63grs for accuracy and give up some velocity. The dilemma is I have 2 .243AI's. One is a factory barrel re-chambered and it will shoot 5 shots in 1/2". The other is a 30" Bartlein barrel and it will shoot 105's at 3300fps with 5 shots into 1/4". So this one would shoot about 10grs more powder for around 75fps. Needless to say it will probably get re-chambered or sold. I might shoot a few more groups with it to see what it will do for accuracy. It has all of 17 rounds through it right now.

That was at 100yds. If I was looking for velocity I would try 64grs if I was looking for accuracy I would try 62 or 63grs.

Still a cool round even if you don't gain much over the 243AI. Glad you scratched that itch for me!

6-284 Nathan. You need one.

I built one 15+ years ago and I have a reamer for it still.

I have a 6BR, 2 6mm's, and 2 .243AI's already without this 6-300WSM. So I need a 6-284 like I need a hole in the head.

It might have more in it with WC872 but you have to clean the bore constantly running charcoal like that. 10 rounds is about max between cleaning. I have about 40 or 50lbs of that stuff at home so I could try it. Even 66grs of Retumbo is only about 90% of case capacity. I could load up a latter test with it and try it out though.

BTW I didn't break in this barrel at all. I shot 7 rounds through it the other day and then cleaned the powder fouling this morning before going out. I might run some sweets through it just to see how bad it is.
