Anybody know anything about this chrono?

I can't remember where I read the article ( maybe field and stream) where they tested it and gave it a very good review/score.

Looks interesting, although I wonder what it would do for accuacy?

Same here, for just gathering readings, it should be excellent, but it has to mess with harmonics some?

I also think that will be true--probably best to do group development and velocity/SD development separately.

I ordered one just because I was tired of getting very different readings on different days due to sunlight, tilt of the chrono, etc. Probably operator error, but if I can eliminate some operator error, so much the better!

I was about to order one when they were in stock, even had it in my shopping cart at Midway...and then our 3-year-old princess took a tumble down 16 wooden stairs, landing on a wooden floor at the bottom. I didn't see it, only heard it, but I knew right away what happened. I thought she had killed herself. Her older (5-year-old) brother said "Anna fell down the stairs!".

We took her to the doc on base, and by the grace of God wouldn't you know, nothing broken, no concussion, nothing. She had some bumps on her head and a pretty nasty bruise on her cheekbone, but it was all forgotten in a week.

Long story to say mine is on backorder! We're delighted our girl was fine!

Gun cranks or not, our children have our full attention when needed. Grateful that your princess wasn't injured. God is good. It will be interesting to see your assessment when you do get the chrono and try it out.

For sure. Glad your young lady is okay. It hurts me each time my kids are hurt.

Midway says a MagnetoSpeed is headed my way...hopefully I can get to the range in the next week or so and try it out.

Looking forward to your report on it Joel. I think you'll be the first I have heard of using it.

I've heard nothing but good things about this chronograph. I've seen testing where it is compared to the Oheler's top chronograph and there was little, if any discrepancy.

Joel, glad that your Princess is okay. Little kids bend where they shouldn't it seems, thank goodness. Kids survive stuff that would kill us.

Let us know when you get this chrono, how it works? I don't use one often but mine is a pain to set up and get working right.

After some use this afternoon, I would say it's a good chrono for speed. I don't know that I would feel comfortable trusting the group data when shooting with it on the barrel, but I'm still undecided.

My shot velocities averaged 2762, st dev 12 fps. The load shoots well, but my previous chrono sometimes read the numbers 2740 (10-15 ft in front of muzzle), sometimes 2680--quite a variance. This chrono showed pretty low variance, and it figures out the average and sd for you, which is nice.

The reason I don't know that I would trust the group sizes is I had some issues initially getting the attachment tight enough to the barrel, and it would move around a bit. Even if I could accept it on the end of the barrel, I don't know I would want to accept group size data when it moved around the barrel. After some use I got it good and snug and didn't see that issue any more, but it would take some getting used to for group size data.

Also, data isn't statistically significant--I only shot about 15 or 20 shots over it, which was about all I had time/ammo for. I spent some other rounds shooting without it to examine POI shift--POI shift is definitely noticeable.

It seems very good at what it is designed for--velocity data. I am much more comfortable now with the velocity data, as it's very close to what Quickload predicted for a good barrel time. I think when I get my 25-06 back from the smith, I'll do load development without the chrono, until I start seeing good groups, and then I'll figure out velocity. With accurate velocity I'll be able to zero correctly, figuring in bullet drop. Definitely worth the expenditure if you (like me) can't afford an Oehler 35.
