What are the differences between the 700s and the 7s?

Obviously the 7s are all short action and have shorter barrels and stocks but to the naked eye the appear very similar.

Stupid question deserves a stupid answer but how different are they when it comes to mounting a stock?

Reason I ask is I am in the market for a sporter weight coyote rifle. I am thinking 22.250 maybe 223 but probably the former

I was really wanting a sps model 700 but it only comes in SS. Which not only cost more out the gate but then I really need to coat it or paint it or something immediately. they no longer offer the all black sps in 22.250

So I see the model 7 predator. A smidge more than I want to spend but basically meets my other requirements aside from the semi short barrel.22"

I am real close to ordering the 7 predator

Design wise is basically the same. Dimensionally they are different. And then yes the stock is a different profile too..

But to mount a scope on it, go to an good shop that will let you play and see which scope looks/is proportionate to the rifle size. Example, you wont want to put something with a 50mm obj on it. As far as mounts go, I believe the screw and thread is the same as a 700 sa, but better double check.

Hope this helps.

The action is a bit narrower and shorter in the bridge area (sure about the rear, possibly the front). Some parts are interchangeable, sometimes, but most are not. As for scope mounts, buy the ones for the Model 7, as the rear hole spacing is significantly closer together than the 700. On scopes, I'd look at something no longer than about 12", and preferably 40mm or below in bell diameter. A compact scope would be even better.

nitis,

The Model 7's are pretty much on the same platform...just shortened up a bit.
CAUTION on the earlier models however as the rear portion of the action only has ONE tapped screw hole for the scope base. Not an issue if you use a one piece base ( hard to find listed for Model 7 ) but a two piece base I don't like due to only one fastening point.
With that said, the XP-100 action mounts work just fine.

The predator is on the newer platform so no issues.....the .223 W/ the Leupy 6x18 varmit reticle would be a great varmit / predator set-up !

The 22-250 would probably be better suited for the 24 inch + tubes

The model 7 is take off of the X-P action which is a take off of the old 600 action. The bolts for the model 7 are appr 1/2" shorter than those used for the 700SA.

Rem made a short run 1998 of XP100-R pistols using the model 7 action

I build my 22-250AI using a XP100-R action in a McMillian stock makes a handy light rifle.
