So when loading pistol cases. Does the case always have to be flared to seat bullet? The reason I ask is because I normally load lead bullets for ball ammo. But with a copper bullet such as berrys plated bullets would it be bad practice to seat the bullet without flaring the case and crimping?

I would think you would have to flare the case mouth some to keep from shaving the bullet and use a tappered crimp not a roll crimp. I don't use Berry's but do load lead bullets in all my semi auto pistols. Berry's are copper plated not a full copper jacket.

Right. Just hoping there was a way to cut reloadin time for things like pistol ammo with a single stage press and still be safe

I totally agree. That's why I am askin if anyone does this or if it's possible. Would much rather be safe than sorry

Always flare your case, a little more for lead bullets than plated or jacketed but definitely flare. You will definitely shave lead bullets and distort plated bullets if you don't.

Lead, plated or fully jacketed... you need to flare them. Straight wall cases mean it just won't work otherwise.

That said, I have my Dillon 650 setup to just bump it a bit, and the 124g Montana Gold CMJs seat without any issue 100% of the time. I figure the less I have to bump the case out and the less I have to crimp it back, the less I work the brass and the longer I can reload them before they get dumped.

As mentioned, you need to flare the case mouth. I load Berry bullets in my 45 ACP and have no issues. They shoot great and cost less than FMJ bullets.
