Back in the saddle again! Here goes... something

As some of you may recall, I recently built a loading bench and got it pretty well set up. I haven't been able to set it up for almost 2 years now. I bought a lb. of H4381 and some CCI primers a couple weeks ago and would have gotten to work sooner, but my old, balance scale was looking pretty shabby. I decided to buy a Hornady digital and it just came in today.

Well, I already have about 30 .277, 160grn PT's that I had begun load development on a few years ago, but never got very far. So, I decided to start from scratch. I had prepped the brass a week or so ago and was ready to go.

I was kind of nervous because it had been so long. It was almost like loading for the first time. Thinking of that song "Feel's like the first time". Anyhow, being it has been so long, I decided to work up from a starting load of 50grns and work up in 1 grn increments to the max of 54grns. I loaded 3 rounds of each for preliminary testing.

Hoping to get to the range towards the end of the coming week.

That looks way too neat. It does feel good, though, when you can get to working on loads again.

That is a fine looking bench! Give it a while to get all cluttered up and you'll be set!

Thank you, gents.

You gotta know I cleaned it up a bit for the photo and this was only my first session at the bench.

Good luck with your new bench and getting back in the saddle again. I love reloading. It is great for some down time to take your mind off of what is going on around you.

Those 160 gr Partitions look really good loaded up should be fun :)

Reloading is one of those great, hands on hobbies that can be extremely rewarding . One thing I really like about it is the fact that it is only a part of the big picture. We get to spend our time doing research, working up a load, producing the final product and then put it to use for hunting, match shooting or just plain fun.

I am really excited to hunt with the 160grn PT. Due to several factors, including having a baby on the way, I have had to postpone my "hog crumpler" project for the time being. I think these loads will fill in quite well in the mean time.

If anyone has something to share as far as a working load for the 160grn PT in a .270win, I would appreciate seeing it.

Thanks , Tony

Hopefully one day you can get that 338 WM Savage you liked, those 160 PT's should be a real thumper for your 270, I don't know what kind of seasons you have for hogs there but it would be nice to see a field report soon :)

Thanks Gerry. I'm in a spot here. In the last year I have sold a couple rifles for financial reasons. Recently I sold my .243win to finance this hog gun. Fortunately I will be back to work in the next couple weeks, so I should be able to re build my rifle selection.

In the mean time, I think this will be more than adequate.
Who needs a .338win for hogs anyway?
I guess I do.

I will be sure to post a report as soon as possible. There are a couple more short, hog seasons before deer season comes around.

Those look really good buddy! Those 160's should do all the 270 is capable of!

I would look at RL22 as well with the 160's. I kinda think it might be the heat with those heavier bullets. Good luck, can't wait for your range report!

The 160 gr PT will probably meet your needs for quite some time. Your bench is way to clean, I would need a lot more clutter. Glad you are able to get going again, reloading is relaxing and very fun to do. !!

Thanks guys. I am going to see how these do as soon as I get a chance, but will definitely pick up some Rl22 and another box or 2 of the 160 PT's.

I was supposed to drive a few hours north to Raleigh NC today for "Training", but it has been postponed until...?.
I'm really kind of ticked off, because I had planned to make the 2 hour drive south on Friday morning for a range session and some afternoon turkey hunting and now I'm not sure it's going to happen, pending the rescheduling.
