Back Yard Buck not doing so Well

Two bucks that show up periodically, the larger has a mass on his right side of face and neck. It's pretty good size. Other than the swelling he looks to be in great shape.



I'm curious if I'll see him this fall and what shape he will be in.

Could be a food impaction caused by arterial worms. Could be bad news for this buck. Could also be an infection from thorns, briers, or sharp sticks.

"Nature" or whatever you call it, shows that deer have more to "worry" about than just hunters.

Here are a couple trail cam pix I had saved. Hope they all make it through to the next season. Interesting that they all look healthy and un affected by the problems they are experiencing

The deer pic looks like a fibroma, a type of benign tumor. I believe they are the result of a viral infection and I do not know if elk are susceptible, though I would expect they are.
