Ballistic Tip Question

Do Ballistic Tips have a velocity at which they perform best? I have been reading reviews on Midway and it seems they fragment a close ranges over 3000fps. Any thoughts as I just order 6mm,6.5mm,.277,25cal,and 7mm Ballistic Tips for some load work for this fall.

Here's a thread I started back in December. Shows the results of a 115 BST launched at 3450 from a 257 WBY, into a Whitetail at 165 yds.

I'm running 140gr ballistic tips in my 280 REM leaving the barrel at 3002 FPS. Can't wait to put them to good use this coming fall!!

Question regarding the Nosler Ballistic Tips:

If the Accubonds shoot well in a rifle, with the load I work up, will the same weight/caliber Ballistic Tip shoot as well with the same powder charge and COAL and give the same POA/POI?

In this time of component drought I can find 30 cal Accubonds for my .300 Win Mag but have located only one fifty round box of BT's. Both bullets are 180 grains and have the same sectional density. I'm hoping I can just switch bullets and keep everything else the same. Of course I will verify this by shooting.

I want to use the Ballistic Tips on intermediate range deer out to 600 Yards.

Normally, I can not switch from Partitions or Accubonds to Ballistic Tips with out some impact changes of rifle zero. Normally the zero changes are on the order of 1-3 inches at 100 yards. I have had a couple of rifles that would shoot some weights of Partitions and Ballistic Tips of the same weight into the same group but not usually.

I was afraid of that.

I was hoping the Ballistic Tip and the AccuBond were more interchangeable, as they share the same measurements, unlike the Ballistic Tip and the Partition.

The balance point on the Ballistic tips is further back in to the case tan with the Accubonds. I he had better luck with Partitions and Ballistic tips shooting to he same POI than between Accubonds and Ballistic Tips. Just a thought.

I think some of it may be just the rifles themselves. Seems like the rifles that are floated and relatively stress free, seem to put most bullets in a close POI.

My 264 Win Mag puts the 140 AB and BT into just about the same group.

The 270WSM is close, but again, once you get out to 300, it'll be enough off that I would want to tweak the zero a little.

I think they would be close, and for saving some money not shooting AB's all the time, a quick rezero wouldn't take much when it came to the Fall and a box of 50 AB's would end lasting quite a long time.

That's sort of what I was hoping as I always confirm my zero at the start of season.
