I'd like to try 40gr Ballistic Tip varmint bullets in my Hornet (Ruger 77). Am currently using Hornady 35gr VMAX with 13.3gr LilGun. Will the Ballistic tip be ok for OAL? And if so, what should be a good starting load?
I personally can only fit a max of 13 grns of lilgun in my win brass, and it gets compacted, I had to drop down to 12.5 grns, thats with speer 33 grn tnt
I've used the 40gr BT in a Ruger that was K-Hornet,and also in a couple 22 hornets.They shoot and perform great.In the ruger,I seated them out as far as mag would allow.
Using Lil'gun in hornets mine did best at 11.5-12.5grs with 40gr bullets.Also did great with ww296 at 10-11grs.
Thanks for the replies. Midway has the Ballistic Tip varmint bullets on sale now, so I'll give them a try. My cases are R-P & must have a little more capacity cause I don't have any problem with 13.3gr LilGun under Hornady 35gr VMAX.
