ballistics of 338 RUM and 338 lap

Not sure I really understand your question. They are similar in case size but the 338 Lapua has about 100 -150 fps over the 338 RUM. The Lapua also has better brass available but at a much higher price. Both calibers are available from Remington, the Lapua is offered in a Law Enforcement version of the M700. Both are long range hammers.

Look in the ballistics room for the two. The 338 RUM is faster than the 338 Lapua when shooting 225 accubonds. I shoot a RUM with 300 grain Sierra bullets @ 2770 out of a sendero. Its a long range hammer!

Agree, but loaded to its true potential with the better Lapua brass, it will out perform the RUM.
I have a 338 RUM and you are correct, its a hammer!

The only downside to the RUM is the crappy Remington brass. Nosler should make brass for the 338. Maybe its just not popular enough.

Just today I ran across two nice Rem 700's in .338 RUM for sale. One was a standard 700 BDL the other is the stainless version in the gray laminate stock...

And here I am, shortly after shoulder surgery... Why am I even looking at these evil, critter-smashing rifles???

Guy,

You NEED the 700 LSS 338 RUM!
