Since I can't get any .358 200gr ABs I was considering trying the Barnes TTSX 200gr .358. Does any one use them and do they foul the barrel badly like other monolithic bullets?

I use them. With a smooth barrel I have not found them to be worse fouling wise than other bullets.

Rodger,

I've used the 200 grain TSX in both my .358 Win and in my 35 Whelen. They gave me excellent accuracy in those two cartridges. I never noticed excessive fouling either with them or with the 225 grain bullets in the Whelen. My sole complaint in the .358 was that they didn't always open as I would have expected. I can't say that I've had that problem in the Whelen. However, I do lean toward the Partition in the Whelen to ensure rapid expansion. I haven't worked up a load with the 200 grain AccuBond in the .358 Win, yet. Be assured that if a 200 grain E-Tip was available for the .358 Win, I would definitely try it.

I have not had excess fouling from the 225 gr. TSX in my .35 Whelen nor from the 100 gr. TSX in my .257 Roberts. My M70 FWT in 7x57 wan a serious fouler with any bullet until I fire lapped the barrel and frankly it still fouls a bit more than I like with the 120 and 140 TSX bullets so I think barrel condition may be more of a factor regarding the severity if fouling from monometal bullets.

Take a look at the .358 225 gr PT. It has served me well in my 35 Whelen and has accounted for quite a few WT deer and a black bear. All were 1 shot kills and only had 2-3 blood trails to follow. Those were very heavy and very short.

I have used the 200 gr TTSX in two guns now and have not noticed any problems with copper fouling at all. Accuracy has ranged from good to great so I would give them a whirl, you should be able to get over 2800 fps pretty easily from your Whelen.

DrMike mentioned the regular TSX not expanding which I can see happening since the 35 cal versions have a tiny hollow point, the TTSX is a great improvement in my opinion since the blue tip covers over a huge hollow point which should be much better when it comes to expansion.

The 200 gr AccuBond is an excellent bullet for sure but the TTSX is good too, if Nosler comes out with a 358 cal E Tip you can bet a few boxes will make their way over to here.

Good point, Gerry. Perhaps I should secure a few boxes of TTSX for my 35s. There is something about being old and set in my ways... :?

I really could say whether the 225 TSX expanded or not. I haven't recovered any. :( I will say internal damage was massive and the three elk died. Seems like my LGS has the TSX bullets in various caliber but not a TTSX in sight. Been looking for 150 gr. 7MM ABLRs and the guy that runs the loading section at my LGS said he hasn't seen any in over a year. I think I bought the last two boxes way back then. I'm more than good with the 225 TSX though.

I'm shooting the 140 gr TTSX I'm my 280 and the 168 gr TTSX in my 300 WSM and they don't fowl any worse than the other bullets I've run through both rifles. Super accurate!!!
