Bed or new stock?

Would you get a new Boyd's stock or bed a factory plastic stock? I have the plastic stock on my Ruger M77 22-250 and I think it is causing some accuracy issues. I would get the stock with the high comb because I have to use a pad to get the right height to get my eye lined up with the scope. One part of me says get the Boyds and then if need be bed that and the other part of me says to try bedding the plastic stock and if that does not work, get the Boyds. So what would you do?

Only stick with the factory plastic stock if you can't afford the $100-130 to upgrade.
Hard to beat the $30 upcharge for a Decelerator pad on the Boyds.

WT, if you are happy with the factory synthetic stock and you are able dismantle and the fully float the barrel on this stock yourself, you may be surprised how well it shoots!
Over the years (and still now), on a number of my rifles I've just floated the barrel and done a trigger job on them, and after sighting it in have gone hunting.
Most of these rifle shot exceedingly well, just like that!!!

I am with Jim WT. I would get the stock if you can, pillar it and be done with it. I imagine you'll be happier in the end.

Brownells sells pillar kits but if you want to keep it synthetic I would look at a Bell & Carlson Medealist which has a full metal action block in the stock and really helps increase accuracy with little or know work and they can be bought for $240 from the right dealer. I have one on my 300 Weatherby magnum and it really made a difference from the factory tupperware stock Weatherby used on the Vanguard S1s. These are advertised as drop in stocks and mine fit like a glove. If you check out thier web site they have a list of venders that you can chose from for your purchase.

That should work fine, if it is pillared correctly.

WT, yes and no. You will want to install the pillars first, then after the pillars are dry, then bed the action with the same bedding compound. Really, all you'll be doing is bedding the tang, recoil lug and maybe skimming the action as well, if you wanna do that.
