I just got a Bell and Carlson Alaskan II stock for my wife's Remington 700 in .308 Win. She wants to shoot in competitions and the accuracy has been good but it's not quite there. It shoots a 5 shot group in just under an inch. Would removing the pressure point to free float the barrel and bedding the stock help shrink the group size?

I don't think there's any way to really know without giving it a try. I don't think I've ever seen a bedding job that was well done hurt accuracy at all.

Try the old credit card trick, under the chamber area of the barrel, in order to relieve the pressure point and reshoot. If it seems to shoot better/more consistent, I would go ahead and bed it, then sand out the pressure point after it is bedded up nicely.

Like RR said, I haven't ever seen a rifle do worse with a bedding job and it will tighten up the stock to action alot. I have a couple to do once I get back as well.

How do you like the stock on the 308. Pretty big fan of the B&C Medalist series.

I love the stock. It is pretty solid and it was affordable. I'll getting another one for my .300 Win Mag.
