Thinking about restocking my 8mm mag with a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock. Any one use this stock? If so how do you like it?

I have one on my Mark V 300 Wby and my Win 70 7WSM. I like both stocks, they will increase weight some but they balance nicely. Both of mine are bedded and floated too. My 7WSM shot great for about 100 or so rounds and then it just lost its mind one day. I traced it down to the tang not seating correctly and recoil actually mashed the aluminum block allowing the action to shift so I pulled it apart and did a bed job. Accuracy returned and all is right in the world.

Bill I have a few of them. On all rifles they improved shooting and they handle fine. They might be a little thick if you have small hands but they seem to fit me fine.

Well that just might be the ticket as I don't have small hands. Did the actions fit nice or was additional bedding needed? Sounds like Heath developed some issues over time with one of his.

I bedded the recoil lug and tang pretty tight on mine. No issues to date Bill.

The Medalist is an excellent stock for the money. I can't find one I like better. My Vanguard S2 257 Wby Mag has a Medalist. I like the feel of the the stock and the recoil pad does a great job. Basically, the recoil of the 257 Wby fees a lot like a 270 Win.

My stock needed zero work to fit the receiver. The barrel is floated, but it still has the two contact points at the end of the stock. The #2 contour barrel does better with that slight amount of upward pressure, according to what the ballistics gurus at Weatherby figured out. I believe they're correct. Every bullet I use in my 257 Wby will make a 3-shot group well under an inch, and two bullet weights have made 1/2 inch groups.

A buddy put a Medalist on his Mark V 300 Wby and the group sizes shrunk for him as well.

I have them on a couple of rifles, and I always bed them. There is no down side to doing that, and usually within an evening in the basement it's good to go. I'm getting close to buying one for my 7mm Wby.

Thanks for all the replies as they have helped me make my decision. I really don't wish to mess with bedding the rifle, not because I don't think it will help but mainly because I've never done it and don't want it as messed up as a soup sandwich.

I'm going to order the stock and a Timney trigger while I'm at it.

Bedding the recoil lug is easy Bill. You could shoot it a little, and if needed, bed it up..

That sounds like a good idea. I have a friend who has bedded many a rifle so I could get some help from him if needed.

I just put one on a Savage tonight and it is a very nice stock! The darn Savage is ccurate but hell, now it is a good looking tool. Money well spent and now looking forward to shooting it.

Thanks Jim that was great. On a side note I don't know why Scotty didn't think of it.

Just ordered an Alaskan ii this morning for my 300 WSM Rem 700. Got it in green with black web, should look real good. Keep everyone updated when I get it.

I think you'll dig it. I have a tan with black webbing and a black with black webbing. Both are good, solid stocks.
