I'm getting ready to load some 55 grain bullets on top of IMR4895 and was wondering what primer is best to use?

I currently load for three rifles chambered in 22-250 and I use nothing but the Federal 210M primer. I have found this primer to be very consistant and dependable. Not that others will not work ok, but this primer seems to get rid of some unexpected fliers that I got with other brands.

You might consider Varget and H380 as possible powders. I have had good consistent one ragged hole groups with both with 55 grain Ballistic Tips

QU812,

I use Federal GM210M primers in my 22-250.

Jerry919,

What charge weight are you using with Varget and the 55 gr BT?

For primers, I use Federal GM205M as my small rifle, GM210M for larger calibers, and GM215M for my magnums.

Fed 210 Match with IMR 4350 with 55 grains

CCI Br2 with Varget

Any ball powders H380/H414 I use Mag rifle primers.......Fed 215 Match with 50 to 53 grain bullets.........

Best Load H380 @ 38gr with Speer 52HP and Rem 9 1/2M.

JD338,

36.0 Varget and 38.0 H380.

Good luck.

Jerry,

I will give 36.0 a try. 35.0 gave me just over 1 inch. Not very impressive in my book. My 700 VLS has a 1:14 twist and I am hoping to get the 55 gr BT to shoot.
Thanks for your help.

I have been using Winchester large rifle primers, Rem brass, H380 powder, & 55gr Ballistic Tips with very good results from my 22-250.
