G'Day Fella's,

I was out at the range today, chronoing some Sub-Sonic loads in my 7.62x39 and .308Win rifles!
This all went well, and I was happy with the velocities, and group sizes.

Any way, a fella I have known for a long time, was 4 benches down from me with his latest Pride & Joy!
This was a CZ 550 Magnum in 505 Gibbs!!!
Well I have to say, he's a far braver(?) man than me, as he was shooting 525 grn http://www.woodleighbullets.com (Australian Made) at 2375ish fps!
Here are a couple of images of the ammo, the rifle and the target!!!

Enjoy! The viewing that is, Not the RECOIL!!!

Doh!

Yes, that can give you quite a jolt when you torch off a cartridge. I've got a friend that has one. I've declined using it on ground squirrels so far.

That is a SERIOUS hunting rifle!

I didn't realize 'roos were so tough... Wow! Great photos of an unusual & interesting rifle. No... I have no desire to shoot such a beast of a rifle, none at all. Things like this are why my .375 is considered a "medium" rifle, despite being the biggest doggone thing I've got.

Wow.. a .505, and CZ built it very well apparently. Am thinking that would be quite a choice for elephant, t-rex, you know... BIG game!

Interesting looking "solid" in the photo too.

Thanks for sharing.

G'Day Fella's,

I'm glad you blokes enjoyed it! Looking at the images that is!!!
Man, the RECOIL appears to be BRUTAL but the owner (Tony), seems to cope reasonably well with it!
You can see by the image of the target, that even Tony can flinch but he's doin a lot better than ever could!!!
I should have placed a .308 case etc between the two .505 cartridges, so you would have something familiar to judge their size against!
The only thing I can say is, the bullets are 0.505" or just slightly over 1/2" in diameter and the case takes up to 150+ grains of RL22 or RL25!!!
In other words, you can drop a loaded .30-06 cartridge into a fired .505 Gibbs and it wont be seen!!! !!!

Yes Guy, rumor has it that Roo's will Charge without provocation, so any unsuspecting "Bush Walker" needs to be prepared!
They also make great "Practice Critters" for Africa, the US, NZ etc, etc ,etc!!!

I remember an old mate of mine (MT) and I were out for an afternoon of walk about Big Bore Varminting!
MT had his Brno ZKK 602 in .375 H&H and I had a Custom made Tikka 65 in .338 Win Mag.
MT hit a Practice Critter (PC) in the chest with a 235grn Speer, which through the PC to the ground!
When we walked over to it, the PC's heart was lying on the ground pumping and twitching, about 8 feet from it's recent owner!!!
Everybody needs at least one .375!

Guy, the www.woodleighbullets.com.au "solids" are actually an homogeneous Brass bullet, called a Hydro or Hydrostatic bullet!
These are designed to primarily penetrate in a straight line but the unusual nose shape, also sets up a hydrostatic shock wave, that creates a permanent cavity of damage!!!
These Hydro's are yet another Australian designed product, that can be viewed on the correct web site (apologies!!!), on this post of mine!

Doh!

AWESOME! That's a big rifle. I would love to shoot that a couple of times.

I believe that rifle would get anyone of us to take notice after firing it a couple times off the bench . I felt my shoulder twitch just looking at the photos. It would be fun to give it a try one or two times. I have shot a 458 win once or or twice

Blessings,
Dan
