Ya, that 338" 250 grain AccuBond has got to be a great bullet!

265 gr bullet on whitetail... :) Love it!

LOL, my first muley was taken with my 375 RUM shooting the 260gn AB at about 100 yards.

There's no replacement for displacement!
And these big bullets open up on deer.

Life and age is catching up with me and I can no longer climb mountains to hunt elk but, I still enjoy hunting deer and hogs. I have convinced myself that I still need my 358 Win, and 9.3x62 and my 45-70's. The truth is, I really like hunting with and shooting bigger bore rifles with heavy for caliber bullets. I could now probably get by with my 7mm-08 or 25-06 but that would not be nearly as much fun and I really enjoy the experimentation involved in reloading.

Funny isn't it? I like hunting with my 375 & 45-70, but have never really needed that big of a bullet. I just like them.

Yep, Me, too!

Got the dust off my 9.3x62 and took in hunting over Thanksgiving holidays.
That 286 NPT hammered 2 deer and a big hog - All DRT.

I've been impressed with my JES rebore 338-06.It shoot a 200gr Nosler AccuBond or Silver Ballistic Tip a tad over 2800fps.I make my brass using once-fired 30-06 brass with one trip through the resizing die.It is very inexpensive and easy to obtain too.

That is definitely a shooter. You are definitely producing some enviable groups, for which you are to be congratulated. You've done well with that rifle. Looks as if it works quite well on game, as well.

Nice groups!
Really like my 338-06 too!
Definitely need to hunt with it more...

Well...Only got one more hog for the season - Also DRT
Am cleaning up rifles now.
My 9.3x62 only took 3 shots to sight-in, 4 more on game all DRT and was the easiest rifle to come clean.
LOL - I think I will do this again next year!

Ray, I had the same experience with my 9.3x62. It took me no time to find loads for both 250 gr AB's and 286 gr NP bullets. I don't remember how may shots it took to sight it in but I know it wasn't many. It is one the easiest cartridge I now load and I load for 10 different calibers.

Guy? Is that funny ha ha or funny peculiar????

I have a few rifles with large openings at the muzzle. I don't count the .338 Win. Mags mostly because I dislike the cartridge. That's just me. I do have .358 Win., .35 Whelen, .375 Taylor (.375x338 Win. Mag.) .375 H&H, .404 Jeffery, .416 Rigby and 45-70.

Probably the biggest one I shoot anymore is the .35 Whelen and only when getting ready fo an elk hunt. That's mostly because at my age, my eye doc fears I may have problems with a detached retina and in the immediate future nothing more potent than a .223 Rem. or maybe the .243 until my fractured sternum heals up from that vehicular accident I was involved in. Doctor's orders. :( I didd enjoy shooting the larger rifles but other than the .375 H&H on one elk hunt years ago up in the John Day region in Oregon only the .35 Whelen has seen long term use once I acquired one. I do so like that cartridge. (y)

405 grains of hard cast lead at 1824 fps will convince anything to lay down and let ya take its picture. The picture of the rifle isn’t that great but she’s purdy in real life.

50 rounds of zombie brown bear loads ready to go. Well 47 I guess due to the requisite group of 3 to verify.
375 H&H
260gr. AccuBond

Can't wait to hopefully get one or two wet in the next few weeks up here. Shooting just under 1" groups with them at 100 if I do my part.

That 260 gr AccuBond performs well! I've seen great accuracy from them, and used them to take a few black bears.

When I went for grizzly, my outfitter was carrying a battered 375 H&H, and the magazine was stuffed full of his 260 gr AccuBond ammo.

When the Nosler 260 Partition first came out ( mid 90s) I had a load worked up in a Mod 70 Express .375 H&h I gave to my Missionary friend in South Africa. He later told me that it worked OK up to Kudu, but on Blue wildebeest and Cape Eland they came apart. The 30-06 Fed HE 180NP ( 2970fps) I gave him with the Mod 70 rebarreled Fwt did fine, but a poorly shot Wildebeest took all day! ha. I suppose that 260 AccuBond must hold together pretty good? I would think, on big bear, at least a 270gr or even 300gr would work better. I base alot of that opinion on the fact that big humped back bears give me the heeby jeebies, ha. The bigger the better for up close...but I'm sure more bears are shot/killed further out, in the open than those up close. But if a big bear isn't a good excuse for a 375 & up...what is? ha I would love to shoot a big bear with one of those 35 Whelen (AI my fave) 310 Woodleigh going 2400fps. I used one on a 200# eurasian hog at 30 steps, blew a 3/4" exit hole but everything in between was messed up big time! Death run maybe 20 feet!

I have a great load worked up with the 260gr AB in my 376 Steyr (61.0gr of H335 with a F215 in Hdy cases) giving 2632 fps out of a 21" barrel and .535" groups at 100 yards.
Mild recoil for this caliber, even off the bench.
Performance on an elk and a bison have been good. Bullet recovered from 36" of penetration on a quartering to cow bison (ended up in rear hind quarter) at 200 yards was double expansion and 95% bullet weight retention.

Such great stuff here guys. Thank you!

Yes, the 260 gr AccuBond does well. I sent a few completely through black bears, but this one was recovered from the off-side hide of one I shot at about 15'.

After tracking down the bear wounded by another hunter. Considerable pucker factor on that one as I could hear the bear moving, hear him breathing, yet couldn't see him in the brush. Finally I saw a bit of bear through the branches and shot it. Never reloaded that Number One so fast!

Here's the recovered 260 gr AccuBond:
4Ms9Mh5l.jpg

Recovered weight was 218 grains and it measures nearly 3/4" diameter. Muzzle velocity was about 2650 fps as I recall. It has varied from 2620 - 2650 with different batches of my handloads over the years.

I remember reading that the 260 AccuBond successfully stopped a charging cape buff in Africa - and I don't think that was an event that had been planned for...

It sure seems like a pretty decent bullet to me. Quite accurate and flat shooting too.
