I currently have one bipod that I switch between two rifles. I have added another rifle to the herd and am thinking of adding another bipod. The one I have is the shorter Harris, that does not swivel. Are there significant advantages to the swivel style? Is there a better brand? These rifles are primarily used for hunting.

I have two of the Harris HBLS models. These swivel, do NOT have the notches, and are 9-13 inches long. The swivel is nice if you set up on uneven ground, as you just loosen the swivel (need to buy a lever to do this easily) and you can level out your rifle. Since I don't go around shooting on airport runways ( ) the swivel gets used a lot.

All I can tell you is that once I bought a Harris bipod that had the swivel, I gave my other ones away. The swivel is great if you are lying on a steep hillside trying to get a shot.

There are other brands out there, but I think the Harris isthe best for the money. A friend bought a really high dollar bipod from a reputable maker, only to have it fall apart.

Harris is literally battle tested. It's a good bipod. Beware, there are Chinese copies on the market now, at about half the price.

Yes, the swivel is an excellent feature! I too had one without the swivel, and ended up giving it away to someone I apparently didn't like very much.

The swivel accommodates uneven terrain, and even helps a little if the shooter tends to torque the stock a bit while shooting. I'm not real big on using bipods, but if I'm going to use one, it's a Harris swivel model.

I forget the model number, but look into the one that extends to something like 23 or 24" - that's high enough for most people to use from sitting. It's really helped my son steady his longish range shooting, when prone isn't an option.

Harris is the way to go for a hunting bi-pod, i have several of them and they have been solid. spend the money and get the pivoting head. Stay away from shooters ridge, caldwell, and any other harris look alike for under 50 bucks unless you dont plan on using it.

Like Dr. Vette says. I don't go around shooting on airport runways ( ) the swivel gets used a lot.

Thanks all for the great info I will order the Harris with the swiveling head. Appreciate it !!!!!

I have used both Harris and Caldwell's. I believe the Harris to be more solid or steady of the two. However, depending on use, I like the Caldwell tilt and pan model. Not quite as steady as the Harris for me, but is also useful in some shooting.

I run a Harris on my hunting rifle but just got a Sinclair Tactical for my 308 "tactical" gun.
It is very nice but I wouldn't want it on a lightweight hunting rig.

My only gripe about the Harris bipods I have is that I always end up with some random crap stuck in the springs.. but that may just be me. :)
