Black Bear Hunting in California?

Mike Great article. I live near San Luis county and really hope the proposition passes this year. There are a lot of bears and sightings are becoming much more frequent. CA bear hunting is a real fun hunt with a long season in my area. I guess we will see tomorrow what happens!

We're pulling for you. Trust common sense will prevail.

We have black bear hunting in California. The fish and game department wants to expand the areas, which is a good idea. The animal rights groups got it closed once in about 1982 for one season but Fish and Game prevailed the next year.
In California, as you know, the Wackos make all the noise and the media tries to make copy out of anything noisey. If they actually get bear hunting on the ballet though it may go the way of mountain lion hunting.
I'd love to move from here.

Good news for sure. God luck pulling bear tags. I hope you fellas do well!

Greg,
Well spoken. Bear hunting is actually pretty good here. Sanity as greater than 50% of the CA population, what a thought. Could be like the good old days in the 60s and early 70s.

well, due to public outcry, the DFG decided to pull their recommendation. We will have the same season and regs as before.
Ca sucks, nice land, but over 50% of the people just plain suck. BTW 40% of us are salt of the earth.

Hardpan,

What a bummer. The cities (and aging flower children) control the state. I still have some dear friends living in the Bay Area. However, the longest decade of my life was a couple of years in San Francisco.

I feel for you Ca guys. I spent from 1997 to 2006 in California, stationed aboard Camp Pendleton. It is thus far the best time I have ever had. I could be at the beach in the morning and in the Big Bear Mountain area by the afternoon. The deer hunting on Camp Pendleton was awesome. I hunted coyotes with my buddies in the off season, bow hunted all over the place. I climbed alot of the mountains around Pickle Meadows and really had a great time in the Kings National Forest. I 4x4 all over Mojave and Red Rock Canyon. I think you all have a great state, minus the people. I still have a very close Uncle in LA County and him and his friends are truely very hard workers and excellent people, but man, I couldn't handle the oppressive laws and the way they do business. They make gun ownership feel like it is sinful. I wish you all the best. If California was run appropriately it would be a paradise for alot of folks. It has so much, but it is hampered by the city dwelling tree monkeys. Good luck guys, I really have alot of love for Ca, but it would be hard to ever want to retire there. Maybe just across the border in NV or AZ though! Scotty

Sorry for the colorful writing. I don't think all the folks that live in the cities are bad neither, but unfortunately, the ones that think most of the craziness live in the city, but makes the laws and govern the rest of the great people. Scotty

Unfortunately, the cities (including the great cities here in Canada--Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal) concentrate the weird and wonderful of the world. The same is true of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Yes, there are some wonderful people in those cities. I knew some great people in New York City, and in San Francisco and in the Los Angeles area, but the attitude of a majority is opposed to a style of living that has become very precious to me and that I would want to preserve for future generations.

with a quota of only 1700 statewide , the bear population is expanding faster than we can shoot them. The quots used to be met after Christmas, now its the second week of Dec.! They need to make it state wide 3000 bears per calendar year. More people would buy bear tags and maybe we could thin them out some. Now dont get me started on the Mt. Lions!!!!
