i clean my barrels with sweets and hoppes solvent now my gun set with hoppes for a couple weeks and it says its ok but before i went to the range i ran a dry patch and got blue out is hoppes solvent ok to leave in the barrel
I clean my barrels with Shooters Choice MC #7 and Sweets 7.62 and only leave a fine coat of quality oil in my barrels. Just prior to a hunt, I will shot 2-3 fouling shots and leave it.
Blue = copper fouling. The Hoppes won't hurt your barrel but personally I think there are better cleaners out there . . . like Wipe Out. I would just run some more patches thru it and then a very lite oiled one. Like JD said, shoot a few fouling shots (at a target) thru it before hunting and you should be good to go.
You could also use one of the foaming bore cleaners, but be sure to go back after that and really oil the barrel, as the foam will remove the oil from every pore of the steel, and it can lead to corrosion if you don't oil it well. Other than following the directions on the can, I can't think of anything else you need to know. I tried one a while back and now swear by the foam.
