What is the ballpark value of a Ruger M77 RL MKII 257 Roberts appears unfired, near 100%?
Keith

I can't speak for blue book, but if I were shopping the used market, I'd expect to pay somewhere between $400 on the very low end and $550 on the high end. Much more than that and all of a sudden you can buy a brand new gun for the same price. There's just not that "collectible" status on most guns, so value runs about 60-80% of original retail.

The .257 Roberts is a fairly sought after chambering at the moment. I would agree with Dubyam that $550 is about the top as you can get a new Hawkeye around the $600 mark. I would put the bottom end a little higher though (~$500) due to the desirability of the Roberts.

I am with the others. I would think about 500 would be the going rate. That is a fairly sought after rifle all the sudden. Scotty

Thanks Guys!
Managed to score a very good deal in a rifle! Like new Ruger M77 RL MK II rifle plus 3 new boxes of ammo for $450 in an estate sale!

Sounds like a deal. Give us a picture of your treasure when you get a chance.

I felt that I have to return the rifle. The rifle will be given to a niece so that she can remember her uncle. As of now, I will be mentoring her next fall on a youth deer hunt.

That's the best deal on a rifle you can get - good feelings, bringing a new hunter into the family, and helping a young person remember one of their family members doing something they loved. You're a good man, Wis65x55. If I run up on a 257Bob in a Ruger, I'll let you know.

Wis65x55,

I doubt that there is anyone on this board that isn't pulling for you as you mentor your niece on her hunt next year. The 257 Bob would be a great one for a young hunter. Among other rifles I've purchased for my grandchildren is a Model 7 CDL chambered in 257 Roberts.

My first real rifle was an 06, but I was shooting a .257 prior to that. We had two of them in the family for quite some time. I traded my last one away just a couple of months ago. Great cartridge, specially for small game and deer, I myself killed a couple of deer with one. The 117 PT was deadly on them. The modest recoil is great for tender shoulders. You may have to modify the stock for a proper fit.

What about a 7X57 Mauser Bill? How do you think it'll work for "tender shoulders"?

I am thinking one young feller is going to have a great Christmas! Hopefully his tender little shoulders can handle that massive recoil from that little Featherweight! Scotty

Both the 257 Roberts and the 7mm Mauser are excellent cartridges for young shooters. When they are found in a stock that fits the younger frame, it is difficult to imagine a finer cartridge with which to embark on a lifetime of hunting.

I certainly hope so Mike. I believe Santa has one in his sleigh......

I have mentored several kids in my family and now have remarried, a few years ago, and have a whole new family to mentor and get started as shooters and hunters, both kids and adults. Even if the adults are not going to hunt, they will help support their kids getting started shooting. If we don't do this, our treasured tradition will go the way of the passenger pigeon. Especially with many school teachers who have been brainwashed themselves and are so mindlessly sure of their agenda to have have villanized my sport to my own children through their insidious meddling, political correctness and revisionist history. This is particularly so at Parochial school where even I paid these cretins to poison my kids against guns and hunting.

Your going to fall in love with that one. Got one just like it shoots like a dream. IMR-4895 is the powder for it. It will do anything a 6mm will do but better with more versatillity with bullet weights.
