A buddy has one in 7mm rem mag. best load he found is remington 175gr coreloc factory ammo. Unless the stock is broken, i would just refinish what you have. New stock will not help accuracy in a BAR. Expect under 2" at 100yds for accuracy. if you find any load that is under 1 1/2" buy a case

If you decide to refinish the wood, you can pull dents and scratches oout of the wood buy using a damp rag or wash cloth and a cloths iron. Place the damp cloth over the damaged area and apply heat from the iron. The hot moisture will swell the wood grain and pop it out. Then sand it and finish.

I'd consider having it refinished in a nice gloss or perhaps doing a hand rubbed oil finish on it, but that's just me.

As for accuracy tips, I'll only add that the nut on the forend (with the sling swivel centered in it) is the real accuracy key on a BAR. Tighten it to about 30-35in-lbs and then tighten it 10in-lbs at a time until you find the sweet spot. Don't go over about 65-75in-lbs, though.

Oh, and clean the gas mechanism. If it's been abused, it's likely dirty.

Don't know about parts for it: but, I have had a number of BAR all in 270 caliber. I have found them to be a bit more accurate than people say. I have had from just under 1" to 1.5" groups with the ones I have had. Of course I reload and I develope my loads. Had a Remington 30-06 semiauto that would get 3" groups if everything was just right. I divorced it. In the last 3 or 4 years I have started working with bolt actin rifles just to have somthing different to play with. I love the BARs.

Bell and Carlson makes a replacement stock and forend for the browning bar, but they only come in black or camo. I found them listed on cabela's. Midwayusa usually carries parts for most guns, so you could look there too.

Midwest Gun Works normally carries a lot of browning factory parts for the BAR. You might give them a try.

If you end up replacing the lumber I would say you run the risk of introducing some accuracy robbing problems. But perhaps not. A synthetic like a Bell might make it lighter. I dont know if you want that or want the weight for reduced recoil. Boyds might make a stock if you need one. CL
