Buddies 270!!!

My coworker wanted to learn how to reload so I had him come over and walked him through the steps. He shot today and ended up with one group that went .75" at 100 yards. 2 in 1 out so I think we will play with seating depth next. He was pumped up when he called me.

I have my work up loads setting on the bench (140gr PT & V-100). I will shoot them in a week or two. If I can find an accurate load at 2850 or over I will be set (22"barrel).

I was started into reloading in 1974 by a buddy and haven't shot a factory load in any centerfire since! I guess hunting with your own load is half of the fun. It amazes me when I see the price of factory loads these days, Just how good could you get with your favorite rifle with factory loads? By the time you it's sighted in perfectly you need another box and they might not be available.

WT.What was your buddies load. Just curious. I still remember my first reloads. They were also for the .270. I have always been pumped up over the .270. Wally world had a bunch of factory .270 ammo stocked up a few days ago here where I live. Was in the store today. All gone. Factory ammo is selling fast. The popularity of the cartridge is amazing.

Try 55.0 IMR 4350 with cci 215 MM primer.

For 140 gr AB I like to use H4831 with 58 gr and G 215 magnum primer and Norma brass.
Very accurate but 2850 FPS only. I think it can go to 2950 fps with other powders.

WT, you have infected another hunter way to go Bud 8).
Some people don't like the 270 win but it is still the calibre that I cut my teeth on & I love that calibre especially with the 24" barrel.
Played a little bit with my cousin's 270WSM it is a laser.

2950 is pretty easy to get with other powders. In my experience accuracy does not suffer either. I use IMR-4831 with 140 AB,s,PT,s and BT,s. I never needed the hotter mag primer either.

For deer hunting, I have always used the 130 PT but the 140 PT would certainly do the job and maybe better for elk!
