I'm right handed but severely left eye dominant.
That led to my becoming semi ambidextrious. From the free throw line in I could shoot with either hand, drive the lane left or right handed, and shoot handguns with either hand. Rifles and shotguns are best shot left handed though for me. I carry right handed but ace the support hand quals and barricade shooting because I shoot with either hand and I'm not afraid to switch hands. Sometimes I even qualify as left hand as my primary hand. This past year has taught me a lot in regards to shooting but I'm always learning and trying to get better.
Now I would like to take the time to extend an open campfire to the female members of this forum. I'm sorry you have to deal with vitriol and strife from lesser individuals. My camp is open and you're welcome anytime. To those of you that resemble the lesser individuals I spoke of, find another camp.

Vince, moving those scopes may be a better strategy because you already have a 6.5mm. However, I have a lot of respect for the long range accuracy and retained energy of the .338 WM. There is certainly nothing wrong with shooting a .338WM at long range on either targets or game. Everybody gets to decide their own uses and applications in this country.

I only have one really longer range caliber and that is the 7mm Rem Mag. I have a 3-5x42 HD-5 on that rifle and on my .270 Win which I have used as my longer range deer rifle for many years. So far, I really like using that HD-5 scope on both of those rifle calibers.

Sorry for the disturbance earlier on this post. Because of being cross dominant, I shoot pistol with the left hand and eye, shotgun with the left hand and rifles (scoped) right handed. It was a mess for me learning when I was younger!

Today, in running errands and going to visit my Cardiologist, I stopped by the Toy Store and paid in full for my Savage Long range Hunter in 6.5 x 284.
They had already ordered the rifle for me as I was at work when they ordered it. It sure is nice to find a Mom and Pop Gunstore that will go out of their way for the customer. It helps that they sort of know me. The first time I bought anything from them I bought two single action revolvers, a sxs shotgun, and a lever action rifle for Cowboy Action Shooting. It's hard to believe that was seven years ago.
Since then I haven't had occasion to buy any firearms from them but they have always treated me well when I stopped in. It beats the other longtime gunstore down the street that I've known and dealt with for close to thirty years. While this little store I bought the rifle from specializes in CAS they will order other items and are known in town to many, if not all, the Benchrest shooters in the area.
Now I just have to wait for my rifle to get here as components and dies are already on the way.

June, for the bullets? Glad that I am shooting the outmoded and undesirable .257 Roberts. I can always buy ammo, cases and bullets for it. I hope that your rifle is everything that you want in a rifle, Vince. Show us some pictures when you get it?

'Flatter' and 'Longer Range' don't really mean the same thing they used to. I love the .25-06.... always have . But, I'll never run another .25 anything. You want .257 Roy performance.... you can get it with the .264 Winny, with cheaper brass and an infinitely greater propensity for LR work given the cornucopia of excellent 6.5 bullets.

100s at warp speed... .264 does it better than .257.

140 grain .600+ BC pills at 3100+... not even a chance with the Roy.

Wherever there's a .25.... there's a better 6.5... that's just how it is man.

If you had thought this out, you would find it and use it to tell you that Ballistic Coefficient is the key to all of this which is a resultant of ogive shape and sectional density. Any caliber can be made, with faster twist and longer bullets of the right shape to fly further. Even you should understand that? Caliber is less of a dependent variable then rifle twist, remember that!

The bottom line is that this is America and we all get to use what we like without having to defend or choices to every brick head that comes along just to disagree whether through ignorance or whatever!
