I called Winchester today asking if they have any plans to do a run of left handed action Model 70's.

I regret to inform you all that the answer was, "Not for at least a couple more years." So Ruger here I come.

Montana Rifles offers the left-hand model 70 in SS for around 12oo$. Might be worth a look,

Thanks Kodiak.
How do they shoot? I've not heard anything about them and wonder what their reputation is.

For the most part, I've heard they do ok. MRC says they will certify ammo thru the rifle of your choice and send you a target.

Personal experience; I know of one that didnot group well and it was sent back. On return, it did very well with factory ammo on paper. That buyer waited about 2 months after ordering before it was delivered.

Good luck,

What caliber are you looking at? The Ruger is a nice gun and reasonably priced just a bit heavy for it's size. They are typically pretty accurate.

That is too bad Vince. Didn't you just pick up a LH'ed 338 Win Mag?

I think the Montana Rifle Company is a pretty good option. From the ones I have seen, they have been very solid rifles.

What about Kimber or Cooper? Do they make LH rifles?

+1. Give Montana a call. Mine shoots lights out and is a well built rifle.

The samples I've seen of MRC rifles look great. About the only way to get a "real" M70 trigger in a new rifle anymore.

They sell actions, barreled actions and complete rifles. A local smith uses nothing but MRC for his rifles.

I shot a fair number of rifles built on Montana actions--some were left handed. I like 'em. I have nothing bad to say about them.

Yes, I did just pick up a left hand .338 WM. :)

Good memory there sir. I was wanting to get a 30-06 or a .270 as a second rifle to make the yet to be purchased rifle and the .338 my two gun battery and have them both be Model 70's. I have three Model 70's but they are all right handed actions. :(

I'll have to look closer at Montana Rifles and see if Kimber makes a left handed one. I really like the Mauser style CRF and three position safety.

Thank you sir.

That is encouraging.

Exactly like mine, save for being wrong handed. Mine, however, is a 24 inch barrel. They were only made one year, so I wonder at the barrel length. Still, if it shoots anywhere like mine, it will be a shooter.

That's a sweet one. Love those Classic Stainless rifles. Hard to beat a 7mm Rem Mag if a 270 or 30-06 is already in your wheel house. Pretty good split between the 270 and 30-06.

And what a battery that will be!

Take that leading 1 off and you'll have a price more in line with what I can spend.

I can't spend any money for the rest of the year on "toys" as the next big purchase, and $650 is a big purchase in this house, belongs to my wife. She'll probably want a new sofa or to redo the backyard.

Thank you Bronc Rider for posting the link. One of these days I'll stumble in to a left handed Model 70 to compliment my .338 Win Mag but I'm not going to chase after it.
