Cartridges U Would Junk?????

Hello my name is Jake and I'm overcompensating for something , and preventing underkill!

Oh yeah, forgot. Someday I would like to get both a .325 WSM and an 8mm RemMag. I bet neither of these made anyone's list!

I find it interesting that the .223 and .22-250 both made a lot of lists. Seems to me there's not that much of a split. If I was going to narrow down my .22 CFs, I would think something like a .22 Hornet or .221 or .222 , paired with a .22-250 or .220 Swift would make more sense.

Dangit, I NEED to buy a Hornet!

Keep:
22LR, 22 Hornet, 22-250, 7mm08, 7mm RM, 209x50, 12 ga

Rather keep and have fun with than turn into cash:
204, 25-06, 308, 30-06, 44 mag revolver

If ever hunting alaska or africa, I would need to add something between 338-375. Until then, my needs are covered.

I would keep the following:
17 hmr we own one
204 ruger have shot a few and really liked them
223 all going to get one
243 win we own one
264 mag great caliber
6.5-284 debating on this one
270 winchester we own one
all 7mm calibers we own the 7mm rem mag and 7mm wsm use to own 7mm-08
308 win, 300 wsm, 300 rum we own the 308
32 winchester special own one of these as well
338 win, 338 rum, 338 lapua, 338 edge Want the 338 lapua
50 bmg Going to get one.........someday

There a some more but I would focus on the most popular calibers out and make them as accurate you can get. I will have to get some of the guns I listed

If I were a cartridge manufacturing company, I`d dump all the cartridges that aren`t selling well and produce those that are regardless of whether I liked them or not. Free market decides.

You make what sells. We all know pretty much what sells.

I’D KILL ANYTHING LESS THAN A .224!!! Frankly, this is getting ridiculous. I’m sure a Coyote appreciates getting hit with a 20 grain bullet. I can’t wait for the new .05 Mag to be released!!! This would complement the new lead free 5 grain hollow point bullet. Stay tuned…

.224—Keep the 223 and 22-250—Throw everything else out…including my beloved .223 WSSM (wait, it was thrown out years ago). That was an impulse buy—reason #1 I no longer attend gun shows.

.243—Can’t believe I’m answering this—Keep the 243 Win—Bye bye all others

.257—25-06 stays—the rest go.

.264—264 Win Mag stays but only under a two conditions: 1) have to have at least a 26 inch barrel and 2) you don’t own a .270

.277—Gee, .270 stays—all others are gone. I like history and Jack O’Connor seemed like he knew what he was talking about. Would anyone like to argue that?

.284—7MM Mag—bye bye all others

.308—30-30, 308 and 30-06—the rest are pure marketing BS including my 300 SAUM (reason #2 I don’t go to gun shows). Anyone want to argue against a cartridge that’s 105 years old???

All other cartridges that are between .308 and .338 are scrap metal!!!

.338—338 Win Mag--good for woodchucks and squirrels—killed a deer with it once too.

.375—H&H—they put this decimal on the board! So they deserve some love…

Anything over this I can’t comment on without PIDOOMA (pulled it directly out of my …). I’m not educated enough in the big boy arena.

Why would you give more weight to O'conner than Kieth ??? Just asking slow day and have to go work so I am procranstating. !!

I named the 338 Win Mag... He probably was the founder of the “over gunned” club.

He wasn't a prolific writer; Jack was so I referenced him (in my opinion that is).

keep
22-250 varmits
280 rem antelope and sheep
300 winnie deer
338 ultra elk and bears
375 ultra anything else i wanna shoot

junk
everything centerfire under the 22-250
270 c ya
30-06 gone
all the wsm and saum
and the great 243
and what the heck exactly is a 338 federal

Wow, some blasphemous comments on the .270win. :? Except for the occasional or rare hunting situation, competitive shooting, L.E. or military sniping, most of the mid sized magnums are not worth the powder they burn. That said, I'll probably have to sleep with my eyes open for a while. .
If we're talking about the perfect, personal battery that covers everything...
22 lr, 220 swift, .270 win, .300 wm, .338 wm, .375 H&H, and a double in .470 NE ought to cover it. I could even reduce it further to a 22 lr, .270 win and a .375 H&H, if necessary.
Oh, can't leave out a well fitted 12 bore.
I'm actually a huge fan of the .308 win family and own a .243 and 308 with the next gun on my list being a .358win, but I could do without them.

BUT, come on. The fun is in trying and owning as many different guns and calibers as possible.

That's it, right there. I'm no great fan of the .270, but somehow I ended up with three of them. There's lots of chamberings out there that I could get by without, but I would miss the joy of trying to figure out a new rifle. Not to mention very little makes me happier than a pile of rifles.

.17- 17 Rem
.20- 204 Ruger
.22- 220 Swift coming soon!
.24- 240 Wby coming soon!
.25- 257 Wby coming soon!
.26- 264 WM
.27- 270 Wby
.28- 7mm Wby coming soon!
.30- 300 Wby
.32- 8mm RM
.33- 340 Wby
.35- 358 STA coming soon!
.37- 375 Wby
.41- 416 Rigby
.45- 458 WM and 460 Wby

Did I mention that I like Weatherbys ..... LOL

If I had to get by with a few:

22 magnum-small game & small predators, won't wreck either if you match the bullet to the game. Also cheaper for field shooting practice than the centerfires.

6mm Rem - I had great results with my 243 for years but really like the new 6mm barrel on it. With proper bullets it handles antelope and varmints great, deer in most situations. Low recoil, great for practice and building confidence and good BC for long range or windy days. Just what the coyote ordered.

270WSM - It offers good BC and good velocity for deer size game in a light handy package. My favorite recipe for dead deer at any reasonable angle with moderate recoil is a 140gr AccuBond at 3000fps. It could be replaced with the 280, 264WM, 7mm RM etc and offer the same ballistics, but I like the handling of a short action with a 23" barrel.

300 win mag - long shots or tough angles for anything that won't try to eat me with managable recoil. Give me one accurate with the 200gr AccuBond at 2900fps plus.

375 ruger - I like the idea of a 20" barreled powerful rifle to get into action quickly for things that might try to eat me.

12 gauge pump for feathered stuff.

I always like to take a backup rifle on a hunt also so this line-up offers enough overlap to allow that for whatever game I am hunting.

I still can't believe I left the 7mm RM off this list. For me the 7's been like gunwriters describe the 30-06, nothing glamorous but utterly reliable. The 7 has never let me down and I've taken more game with it than any other round. If I would add one rifle it'd be a 7mm RM and be my dedicated back-up rifle for everything but bears.

I like this reality show.
If I'm a company:
223 Rem.
308 Win.
30-06
270 Win.

For Me:
270 WSM For varmints
350 Rem mag. For pigs
All the RUMs For everything
416 Rem. For cow elk
416 Wby. For bull elk
450 Marlin For tree stand bears
Special order:
325 WSM For the heck of it cause I like em.

Small and non-magnum calibers are OK! Please excuse me, I have to go to confession.
Greg

I would get rid of none!!! And yes POP we could lose our friendship over the 30-06 and 300Win mag.

In my opinion, the keepers are:

.22 LR
.204 Ruger
.223 Remington
.22-250 Remington
6mm Remington
.25-06 Remington
6.5mm-06
.270 Winchester
.280 Remington
.30-06 Springfield
.300 Win Mag
.338 Win Mag
.35 Whelen
.375 Ouch & Ouch

Maybe .416 Remington and .458 Win Mag for the humongous stuff. All the rest are nice, but I'd not feel the least bit disadvantaged with only these calibers available to me. I am of the opinion that anything from .25- to .30-caliber is best based on the good ol' -06 case, but a good argument can be made for a belted .30-caliber cartridge. And I really would hate to have to give up the .222 Remington!

Handguns would be another interesting list, but it might be real hard to get anyone on the same page at all because handguns are viewed from so many different perspectives.

Hey I kept them Mike!

30 -- This is where I lose some friends! :( 30-06 and 300 Win. (I am not two crazy about either)

If I where rich would keep them all because they are a part of guns rich history, but a man with a limited budget I would keep. 22 lr, 243 win. 30-06 to cover everything large. And a trusty 12 gauge . As a practical man with what I consider a average income that's how I would hold the line given today's bullet selection.  8)
