My primary gopher rig is a Rem 700 in .204 Ruger. Its just a plain ADL but Remington sees fit to use ultra thin parkerizing that is like a screen door on a submarine in terms of rust prevention. This thing will rust just looking at it and it is really annoying. I live in a pretty dry climate and have zero problems will any other rifle I own.

Otherwise I really like the rifle, so I'm thinking about having Cerakote done on it.

Anybody have experience with it?

No experience with cerakote yet, but a rust remover cloth and a silicon impregnated cloth from midway cleared up all the problems I was having with my Remington SPS.

G'Day Fella's,

Wincheringen, I received a Brand New, in the box Rem 700 SPS blued for a customer the other day.
It had a heap of surface rust on the bolt body! A quick rub with an oily rag fixed that!

As to Cerakote, I apply the Air Cure version of it to many of the firearm related things, that I manufacture.
I have also applied this same air cured Cerakote, to several of my own hunting and shooting rifles.
www.nicindustries (the Cerakote people) also make an Over Cured version of Cerakote and this is what serveral US based firearm manufactures use!
Apparently S&W Thompson-Center and some others apply this later product, to there many of their production guns!!!

I'm sure you have worked out by now, that I'm a fan of this product, especially for any product or firearm, that will be subjected to harsh environments!
FYI, any moving parts like the Bolt Body, Firing Pin and Spring, etc), should have a coating of Micro Slick applied to them. This is also a Nic Industries product.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the link Homer. I found a local guy that does it, he wants $175 which is more than I would spend. I'm not a tactical tom, just looking for a durable coating that will prevent rust. It appears I can do the coating myself so I may give that a shot.

G'Day Fella's,

Wincheringen, not a problem mate, happy to help!

A word of advice, to Cerakote a complete rifle, is a big job!
From start to finish, for one bolt action rifle barreled action, scope bases and rings, takes me 6 or 7 hours to do the job!!!
And I have all the correct equipment, firearms knowledge and product preparation and application experience.

By the way, I only do my own firearms, and my good mates firearms but only those that can swap me for a days worth of work of some kind!

Here is an couple of my rifles, a Rem 673 in .350 Rem Mag and Weatherby Mk V in .340 WM

Hope that helps

My favorite "coating" of the various options is Black T.

I believe Nosler uses Cerakote on all the rifles they build, including the very high-end custom rigs. That's a pretty hearty recommendation when a company like Nosler uses the stuff...

Does the coating ever pull off when glass bedding the action?

The bed jobs I've done, using PVA as the release agent, all took a couple firm smacks each to get the action loose. BT

BT, the way I understand it, with a good prep job on the metal, the heat cure stuff should never flake or pull off.
