The church is kind of on the edge of town about 3 miles from our place, and I drive past it everyday going to town and work. He could have even walked through my yard to get there

Have heard a number of stories over the years of mountain goats showing up on people's properties or seen in surprising places, many miles from the nearest mountains we have in the region where mountain goats normally reside. Not overly common, but frequent enough over the decades to make it rare (about once a decade), and not just extremely rare occurrences.

Some people just need newer prescriptions on their eye glasses!
But I can see how an ol' curmudgeon (pun intended ) might mistake a hunchbacked, grey headed elder with a scraggly beard with an old goat!
Some children mistake them for Santa Claus!
