Hi Roy, A number of years ago I was given a large batch of 06 ammo which was dated prior to WW2. I found out the primers were corrosive and contacted friends at Sierra prior to shooting. Hot water was the immediate response. I flushed the barrel out and then cleaned normally with rust prevent being the final touch. Did not have any problems.
Military method was soap & water for a couple of days and then use military lube in the barrel of my Carbine M-2.When I fired corrosive ammo in my M-1 Garand I used soapy water on consecutive days to clean it then oiled well.
