Contemplating a build...

For some odd reason I am seriously considering building a rifle off of a Savage target action...I am thinking of using their dual port version in a short action and turning it into a strictly paper-punching, single shot 260 Remington.

But on the other hand I have my newly acquired 7WSM, so I am uncertain whether it is worth it.

Thoughts?

The 260 is a fine cartridge, and it is always fun to build a rifle that reflects what you want. The argument could be made that you need some time to familiarize yourself with what you have, perhaps blooding it in the process. However, in the final analysis, each individual has to pursue his/her own dream of what they want in their inventory. Paper punching is addictive, and leads to other extremes, each of which becomes even more addictive. Best of luck whatever you decide.

Think rather than go through all that, I would just pick up one of the Savage Long Range target rifles in 6.5-284. Add the McMillan of your choice down the road.

Do it! I've always wanted to do a build on the Savage dual-port, but lack the cash right now. The 260 is a great round too!

I think it's. good idea.

My .308 target rifle is shot far more than any of my other centerfire rifles. Accuracy is outstanding. Barrel life is excellent, as it will be with a .260 Rem.

A target rifle is a good thing to have.
