Helped a couple of friends by setting up their guns. Took 'em to the range today for a final check.
12 ga Win 1300 pump. Wow... Nice black shotgun. Easy to shoot, very rapid fire with what seems to be a shorter stroke than the Rem 870's to which I'm accustomed. Put a little 1x optic on it with a groovy choice of green or red illuminated dot. Sighted it in at 25 yards with one-ounce slugs. Only took about 4 shots to dial it in, then I had fun blasting a rock with it, from about 100 yards. Nice setup.
That success lulled me to complacency...
5.56mm Spike Tactical AR-15 type critter. Nice rifle. Sighted in the flip-up sights at 25 yards and the low powered scope at 50 yards. No problem. Then came the green laser. Ach!
After 58 rounds were expended, I gave up.
The laser would glow faintly. Then suddenly turn bright. I'd have it just about zeroed, then suddenly was off by 6" or more. Got more than a little frustrated. Seriously considered conducting a float test in the Columbia with it... But it's not mine. I decided to pack up and leave the range before destroying the laser. Good call.
Tomorrow my buddy will have his rifle & shotgun back, and sadly, his laser. It does look cool, but that's about all it does.
