Bullet's post on his upcoming build got me thinking on this (enjoy it Mike, sounds like a great rifle). I didn't want to hijack his thread, so I'll start a new one.
Almost all wooden stocks on factory rifles seem to come with a crossbolt just in front of the trigger. If a guy was going to buy an aftermarket wood stock, such as in a build as Mike is doing or just to get a higher grade stock for a factory rifle, does it need a crossbolt? Will a solid bedding job mitigate the need for one? Or is there a certain recoil threshold where you start needing to worry about it?
I have thought many times about upgrading stocks, and I hope someday to do a build as well. But the last thing I would want is to put a bunch of work into a stock, get it just the way I want it, and then split the wrist on it...
What do you experts have to say?
